Fox’s Bill Hemmer promoted the theory that the disturbing over-reaction of a white police officer with black teenagers at a McKinney, Texas pool party is really the fault of the black teens who have been corrupted, apparently, by Black Lives Matter protests and, of course, President Obama and Al Sharpton.
The meme seems to have begun with Bill O’Reilly. On America’s Newsroom, Hemmer played a clip.
O’REILLY: I think to some extent this willingness of people to resist police commands and disobey police orders has been encouraged by some of what we’ve seen, by the portrayal of people who get in trouble with the police as victims, by the portrayal of police as racists. By the attitudes shown by people ranging from Al Sharpton to President Obama himself toward the police.
There you go - it’s Obama’s fault!
Hemmer asked his guest, former Boston police chief Daniel Linskey, “Do people feel emboldened to act against law enforcement?”
Linskey did not absolve the officer. But he adopted the “emboldened thug” meme.
LINSKEY: He’s absolutely right. People now feel it’s their need to go at law enforcement to try and get them to take bait to act unprofessional and that’s unfortunate. It’s even worse when officers take the bait and do act unprofessional and lose their training and lose their focus.
Clearly this was an officer who was in a hostile situation. It was emotional and it looks like he lost control of his emotions and it looks like a contempt of cop situation.
Hemmer followed up with a question further suggesting the teens were the guilty ones because they baited the police officer.
HEMMER: Based on what you see on this video. We did not see what happened before. We only have a couple of minutes here. You think this officer took the bait?”
Linskey agreed the officer took the bait. But then he parted company with the Fox meme.
LINSKEY: This officer definitely took the bait. I watched a little of the extended version of the video where I saw another officer who is interacting with the kids calmly talking to them, working out the problems, trying to get the people to move along.
We don’t know what happened beforehand and that’s important to put in context. But clearly this officer is upset, he’s unprofessional in his language, he’s unprofessional in his behavior. The young lady was walking away.
She might have been saying something he didn’t like. She’s got the right to say that but at that point he lost his emotional edge and he reacted to it. He took the bait unfortunately.
Linskey went on to say that the officer should have “taken a deep breath and stepped back and waited for the situation to clear out and see if people would calm down and move on.” He noted that there were other officers who were “engaging the crowd.”
The police officer in question has since resigned.

FOx news has a valid point. Two black witnesses appeared on CNN. One very sensible black man who is a resident said it was not about race; as well we a teen who was there. Fox is correct in saying Obama is to blame. He has legitimized the narrative that black have no responsibility for their children and failures.
So how much responsibility do black parents have for there innocent children getting shot by Cops?
It’s blacks parents fault that a Cop shoots a guy in the back 8 times ‘cause he claims to have feared for his life and dropped evidence near the body of the guy he shot?
It’s the black guys parents fault that he got choked to death for selling loose cigarettes? That’s a death sentence in the black community now? Did his parents fail to inform him that Cops WIL KILL YOU for selling loose cigarettes, even if it’s on camera, and will get away with it?
My opinion is that good Cops might want to start getting rid of these “thugs with badges” or, as the Cops parents might say, they’ll get lumped in with corrupt criminal activities of the bad Cops.
You would agree that it’s not Pres. Obama’s fault that these bad Cops are “going off” on the black communities across America and that it’s the Cops parents fault for raising mentally unstable kids who want to join the Police force in order to live out there sick fantasy of executing a black person and getting away with it.
I guess I could say that Fox News has “legitimized the narrative that” racist, bigoted, Cops “have no responsibility for their” other racist and bigoted officers “and” THEIR “failures?”
It’s pretty clear you’re reaching for phony excuses to absolve officer dive roll of any responsibility. Is it possible for your mind to at least entertain the possibility that the current backlash against police might be a result of their own unethical actions (combined with current technology that now makes it super easy for the public to become aware of these actions)?…because the idea that police are suddenly acting irrationally because of some hidden message in Obama’s speeches seems pretty ridiculous.
