Apparently, model Chrissy Teigen didn’t get the list of Fox News dos and don’ts for sensitivity in tweets. While Fox News personalities are notorious for their insulting tweets, the Outnumbered hosts were up in arms over Teigen’s tweet about gun violence in the U.S. as the shooting in Ottawa was playing out.
In case you missed it, Teigen tweeted: “active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in america, Wednesday.”
Co-host Sandra Smith didn’t hide the contempt in her voice as she said, “Plenty of people took offense immediately, saying the model was making a joke as a soldier was shot dead. …Teigen said it was not a joke, just a fact.”
The show’s #OneLuckyGuy, Eric Bolling, called Teigen a “prime candidate” for his “fool of the week” segment on The Five.
But Andrea Tantaros said, “Chrissy Teigen is known for, obviously, her lovely bottom and her food Instagram pictures. She should stick to that. This is the problem when models start to talk. It plays into that dumb model stereotype.”
Unlike, say, rock musician Gene Simmons opining on Ebola, as happened on today’s show? Or ex-model Carol Alt guest hosting Fox & Friends where she opined on Edward Snowden? (Alt also has a show about health and beauty on Fox.)
And as for insensitive tweets, how about Fox’s Todd Starnes complaining that Miss America was not American enough? Or Fox host Heather Childers’ tweet asking for “thoughts” on whether the Obama campaign threatened Chelsea Clinton’s life “2 Keep Parents Silent?” Or when Erick Erickson referred to Texas’ Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis as “Abortion Barbie?”
Meanwhile, whether you like Teigen's timing or not, Media Matters points out that her basic message is correct, the U.S. has far more gun violence than Canada. But I'll bet you won’t hear any complaints about Teigen today. Right now, the top of FoxNews.com reports on not one but two shootings:
