According to Fox News’ Monica Crowley, the reason Democrats want “open borders” is so they can “lock” “illegal immigrants” into government dependency and thereby gain a permanent voting majority.
Crowley, Fox’s queen of conspiracy theories, was on The O’Reilly Factor last night to discuss an influx of 3.1 million new immigrants from 2014-2015, according to Bill O’Reilly. He asked about the “unintended consequences.”
Crowley seemed more interested in talking about the “intended consequences.”
CROWLEY: Let’s talk about the intended consequences because both political parties have refused to enforce our immigration laws and they want open borders. On the right, you have groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, you have other people in big business who want the open borders, they want the amnesty because they want the cheaper labor.
On the left, it’s all about power. …On the left, they want to flood the zone, they want to lock as many illegal immigrants into dependency on government programs and the ultimate objective of that is to lock in a permanent Democrat voting majority.
Even O’Reilly couldn’t buy that. He said, “I see it a little bit differently.” He asked the other guest, Fox contributor Eboni Williams to comment.
Williams, supposedly there as a liberal counterweight, didn’t challenge a word. Instead, she agreed that there are “two competing” reasons for “relaxed borders” rather than to “fix this thing.”
Watch it below, from the June 1 The O’Reilly Factor.
Essentially, this is O’Reilly doing a keep-alive, a standard right-wing FOX spin device. So Bill comes up with a new fact – 3.1 million new immigrants from 2014-2015 – and uses it so we can all relive the standard anti-immigration nativist right-wing talking points just like we have a zillion times before over the years. This is supposed to make the stale fresh. Notice after the initial fact is presented no more are forthcoming. Opinion becomes ‘fact’ if America’s daddy agrees with it.
Ironically, O’Reilly never explores his own stat so we don’t know if it really sustains his argument.
For example, Bill does tells us most of the surge is legal immigrants. End of context. He does say, if I recall, this is a 39% increase. Cue cries of “Build a wall! Build a wall!” Really? O’Reilly never tells us who’s surging. His silence is deafening making me suspect the legal immigrants are doing most of the surging in that mix. Why? Because conventional wisdom has been illegal immigrants have been net flowing out of America during the Great Recession.
Oh well, I have better things to do than rip Bill’s total crap analysis and Monica’s lazy, unfounded in fact right-wing smears of Democrats. But that’s faux liberal Eboni’s job anyhow. Eboni’s an epic fail. By design I imagine. It’s FOX.
Am watching Hannity’s show (listening, actually, because watching the man makes my stomach heave) and it’s “vicious attacks” here, there and everywhere. May be wishful thinking on my part but it seems to me that they were hit to the floor last night and the referee is counting to ten.
I’m starting to look forward to the contrast between the hurling of personal insults by Trump and the sensible (somewhat schoolmarm-ish tone) of Clinton as she demolishes his own words.
If I’m not mistaken, Monica Crowley appears regularly on Gretchen Carlson’s show, as an outside commenter (a journalist from a DC newspaper?). On Hannity right now, she’s in full attack mode for Trump, with Geraldo providing the counter-voice mostly because he resents Trump’s attacks on Hispanics. Fun to watch, actually, a bit like professional wrestling where it’s all for the crowd.
