Judge Andrew Napolitano, the same Fox News "legal analyst" whom Donald Trump has trusted more than his own intelligence agencies, just so happens to have suggested that FBI Director James Comey should be fired over his handling of the Hillary Clinton emails less than a week before Trump did exactly that.
During the Trump Daily Briefing otherwise known as Fox & Friends, Napolitano criticized Comey's explanation, given to the Senate the day before, for his handling of the Hillary Clinton emails investigation. John Amato, at Crooks and Liars, caught the telling exchange:
The Judge told 'Fox and Friends' on May 4th, that he believed Comey was being sincere, but added, "He should have followed the law and the law is you do not reveal the status of a criminal investigation."
[...]
When asked by Steve Doocy, the Judge said, "Yes, I do think he should be fired."
Yesterday, that's exactly what Trump did.
According to The New York Times, Trump had been smoldering over Comey's testimony and had decided to fire him by Monday.
But did Napolitano provide the excuse?
We know that the Trump White House has relied on Napolitano's "judgment" in the past. Unfortunately, it didn't work out too well in March. Then, Press Secretary Sean Spicer caused an international incident after he cited Napolitano's allegation that the British helped President Obama spy on Trump. Fox News officially disavowed Napolitano’s remarks (without explaining why the network had repeatedly aired them). Napolitano was briefly removed from the air.
If Trump did take cues from Napolitano over Comey, it's not working out so well this time either.
Amato also noted that Fox News' John Bolton told Breitbart News Daily that Comey should have been fired over his treatment of the Clinton investigation that same day.
Watch Napolitano argue for Comey to be fired over his handling of the Clinton email investigation below, from the May 4, 2017 Fox & Friends, via Crooks and Liars.
The sane world wanted Comey gone because of the unprecedented and unnecessary telling off he gave her back in July and his idiotic, game-changing announcement in October.
Trump, however, didn’t give a fig about any of that. He had reasons all of his own…
