On the 2/16/13 Cavuto on Business, the panel worried about the price tag for President Obama’s new “spending push.” Fox Business’ Gerri Willis said, "I think it's immoral to make all these promises when you know at the end of the day you can't afford it, we can't afford it. To say preschool for everybody, are you kidding me? We don't have the money for that. He also promises mortgage assistance, $3000 for everybody. This is just crazy talk, and I think it's immoral to put this across as something that’s actually doable when it's not."
Calling universal preschool “immoral” is immoral itself. But it’s also wrong. As a Reuters blogger notes in a post outlining how pre-K education is a good investment in America,
Of course we must address the money question. My rough math says that the cost of educating this little platoon of Americans would be about $8.7 billion. This is merely a rounding error for federal or total state budgets.
In other words, we can afford it. Willis and her Fox News colleagues just don't want it.
