If you thought Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis’ defiance of a court order to issue same-sex marriage licenses was something Fox would not be able to blame on President Obama, think again.
On Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace began a discussion about Davis by making her lawbreaking about Obama. Wallace teed up the ball for conservative Fox News contributor George Will to use against Obama.
WALLACE: Well, that clerk Kim Davis says that God's law outweighs man's law. The Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage and a number of Republican presidential candidates including Ted Cruz and Rand Paul and Mike Huckabee jumped on her bandwagon.
George, your thoughts about the principle and politics of the rule of law and also, what about Barack Obama who seems to sometimes pick and choose which laws he's going to enforce?
Not surprisingly, Will ran with it.
WILL: Well, there's no question that the president's selective interpretation of the constitutional provision that the executive shall see that the laws are faithfully executed, his selective approach to that perhaps has encouraged a kind of lawlessness down the ballot. People are saying, "Well, I can do whatever I wish."
Then Will took it a step further by suggesting that Davis’ defiance of the law is a Democratic thing.
WILL: But surely it is a wholesome rule that executives should obey legitimate court orders. That's true whether your name is Orval Faubus, the Democratic governor of Arkansas in the 1950s, or George Wallace, the Democratic governor of Alabama in the '60s, or Kim Davis, the Democratic county clerk in Kentucky.
She made a choice. She -- unquestionably, her faith is important to her. Evidently, her paycheck is also because she did not resign her office.
Surely Will knows that Davis’ stand is more in synch with Republicans than Democrats just as he knows that the Dixiecrat segregationists later became Republicans.

Like the prime minister of Hungary – Orban – who says that his inhumane treatment of desperate people is motivated by his wish to defend everything that Christianity stands for. Laughable, were it not so sad.
Claiming that right-wing fundamentalism is “God’s Law” is a farce. It is also a completely false interpretation of the Bible. “Literalism” and “Inerrant” crap is just that – crap. Think “Creationism” and “End Times”. (666=Nero, dumbasses.) Bogus religion that excludes Jesus the human. (Liberal!)
Look at the books of Matthew and James and strip the interpolated religion out of it. See the social justice messages? “Parables” vs. “miracles”. (Yep – people brought extra loaves and fishes.)
When modern society takes a critical look at contemporary “Christianity”… (It won’t happen on commercial national TV news – bad for ratings to look at Christianity and the Bible historically and via critical thinking.)
If this were an objective interview, Wallace (not his dad) would not have asked a fallacy question – the pick-and-choose nonsense. This is opinion questioning, not objective news journalism.
George Will’s “selective” results in “lawlessness” (“down the ballot”?) is b.s. on its face value. What authoritarian planet is George Will from?
Fox is built on fallacy. It is a propaganda outlet. Stop the fallacies with reason.
