Last night, I wrote about condemnations of Fox psychiatrist Keith Ablow by medical professionals. They blasted Ablow's diagoses-without-examination of President Obama as "shameful" and "irresponsible." Today, Ablow issued a statement in which he doubled down on both his methods and his conclusions.
Yesterday, David Bauder, of Associated Press, reported on Ablow's habit of "analyzing" President Obama's supposed hatred for America on Fox News. Bauder spoke to Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman, chairman of psychiatry at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Ford Vox, a staff physiatrist at the Shepherd Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta. Their professional opinions were that Ablow's behavior was "shameful," "unfortunate," "irresponsible" and "embarrassing."
Today, Ablow issued a statement that probably does little to enhance his professional stature. TPM wrote it was "as defensive as it was disjointed. An excerpt:
As a medical professional it is readily apparent that a President who tours the world apologizing for America, who was part of a church in which the pastor preached "God damn America!" and who admonished American entrepreneurs that they did not build their own businesses is a President who has issues with the nation of which he is President. The use of selected and edited comments of mine to attempt to "shoot the messenger" is an unfair attempt to impair my credibility.
...My commentary is accurate, and I will continue to speak truth to power.
Speaking truth to power? Ablow is spouting off-the-cuff assumptions, couched as medical opinion, to viewers of a national news network that presents him as a credible member of their "Medical A-Team." What Ablow is really doing is using his credentials to burnish his political opinions.
