Bill O’Reilly and his pal Bernard Goldberg revealed just how out of touch with everyday Americans they are as they sneered and jeered their way through “analysis” of the Democratic debate.
“If Vladimir Putin was watching last night, you know he has to be rooting for a Democratic victory next year,” Goldberg “quipped” last night.
The talk got even less respectful and more out of touch as it moved on to income inequality.
GOLDBERG: There was lots and lots of talk about income inequality. Not a peep from the candidates or from Anderson Cooper about how dysfunctional behavior leads to poverty which contributes to income inequality. Because liberals, whether they’re liberal candidates or liberal journalists, don’t like to talk about dysfunctional behavior. …No judgments, like 15 year-old girls having babies.
I’m all for self improvement but this just shows how much Goldberg or O’Reilly don’t understand real life in America and the truth behind the difficulties facing the 7% who are working poor here. Coming on the heels of O’Reilly’s claim that the only hungry children in America have parents who abuse the system, you have to wonder how much these two ever talk to anyone outside their elite bubble.
Or whether they ever talk to anyone who doesn’t hate poor people.
GOLDBERG: There was lots and lots of talk about big government and free – I’m putting the word in quotation marks – “free stuff.” I’m listening to the debate and I’m thinking these people, these candidates, makes the Occupy Wall Street crowd look like a bunch of right-wing nuts. …
O’REILLY: If I were moderating the debate last night, I would have handed Bernie Sanders a brochure to Venezuela, OK? I’d say “You like socialism, Bernie? Here. I know it’s not too close to Vermont but you can get a plane down there and go see how it’s working out.”
GOLDBERG: I was wondering if his middle name was Che.
O’REILLY: He’s got a big poster, Bernie. He’s got a big Che poster alright?
Then O’Reilly began mocking how Sanders talks, as Goldberg laughed.
That’s how Fox News fat cats view people struggling to get by: They’re lesser than others because they’re badly behaved and undeserving of anything except scorn.
And if you’re a U.S. Senator running for president focusing on ameliorating the situation, you’re even worse.
Watch it below, from the October 14 The O’Reilly Factor, and ask yourself, who would Jesus scorn?
Getting on task here, I’m a bit surprised Bill is doing another set-up hit job on Bernie. Recall he sicked (yes, I checked the verb spelling) ambulance chaser Jesse Watters on Sanders to humiliate him. Why am I surprised conservative O’Reilly is attacking a liberal ‘Socialist?’ Seems like standard “Factor” operating procedure. Let me explain.
I’ve witnessed a lot of relative kindness to Sanders on GOP TV™ though they do take some shots (more on that later). Their 100% negative coverage is reserved for all things Hillary. Obviously, Fox is obsessed with seeing Hillary loses the nomination since she’s the biggest threat in a general election. If unelectable Sanders knocks her off I’m sure career Republican media consultant Roger Ailes will kick up his heels in joy.
Yesterday on “Fox & Friends” GOP TV™ revealed a bit of their game plan taking down Sanders should he get the nomination – though he’s a target rich candidate it’ll be easy to trash. They ran a clip of The Donald (what Fox is making the Democratic debate about) mouthing off about the Democrats being tax and spenders. While they didn’t exploit one of Trump’s specific talking points – the Foxies were running with a broader Dem attack – The Donald made the point Bernie wants to tax Americans up to 90%.
Well, I thought this was Trump just being Trump and doing his typical stream of consciousness exaggerated fear-mongering b.s. (e.g., ‘Mexican’ immigrants are a bunch of rapists). However, I looked it up and, sure enough, Sanders was foolish enough to support the notion of a 90% tax rate in one of his crazy Uncle Bernie moments spewing resentments against the evil rich.
Our best hope in 2016 is Hillary gets on track and puts to bed all the GOP and GOP TV™ obsessive attacks like EmailGate and Benghazi! While Bernie had the best and most memorable one-liners at the Democratic debate, Hillary was extremely impressive. Let’s hope she keeps it up. While it’s a closed door hearing (chortle), her next hurdle to prove her worth is Trey Gowdy’s kangaroo Benhagzi! hearing testimony.
If Republicans take the White House and keep a super-majority in the House (steered by the Tea Party minority) while keeping the Senate, the only thing keeping America from becoming a Dickens’ novel is the power of the filibuster. Not nearly enough.
