Fox News’ “business block” discussed a Hillary Clinton ad calling Republican candidates Grinches – with almost all the talking heads calling her the Grinch.
Steve Forbes got right to it, saying, “Hillary’s the real Grinch, and so is her boss. They both deserve lumps of coal for the war against hydrocarbons. They lied to us like naughty little boys and girls about keeping your doctor and keeping your insurance. They’ve given us higher deductibles and higher medical expenses. They’ve given us the worst recovery from a sharp downturn in American history with higher taxes, big spending, and wrecking the dollar.”
Apparently, the fact that nearly 17 million people are now insured thanks to ObamaCare, as Forbes’ own Bruce Japsen wrote in May, doesn’t count for much.
Host David Asman brought up the “hero” in this, Ronald Reagan: “If you really want to help everyone, as we saw back in the Reagan administration, during their period of tax cuts, tax rate cuts across the board, look what happened. The top 20% did great, they gained 12% real income, but the bottom 20% also gained about 12% in income. If you want to raise all boats, cut all taxes.”
Not mentioned by Asman was that the budget deficit nearly tripled under Reagan.
Host Asman added this “fair and balanced” comment: “The government doesn’t give anything. The government takes, and then the government redistributes what it takes. They’re more like the Grinch than Santa.”
But panelist Carrie Sheffield took the cake for the Grinchiest comment of all. “You’re absolutely right,” she told Asman. “They don’t actually make real Christmas presents. They just steal them from other people and redistribute it. …Hillary is the real Grinch, she wants to make America poorer and less prosperous.”
If Asman and Sheffield really believe that, they should never take a penny from the government, especially not Social Security when they retire.
Watch it below, from the December 26 Forbes on Fox.
Which explains why Fox Business ratings are in the crapper while Fox News’ thrive. If you want right-wing political vomit you go directly to the Fox News propaganda mother ship.
Worse, the stuff here is the same pile of steaming redundant partisan bulls**t repeated every Saturday by the biz block. The redundancy is so boring I don’t follow it like I used to.
There’s the lies. Like the dollar is trashed. Actually, its very strong versus currencies like the Euro which is creating problems for our exporters. Why doesn’t Fox Business blame Obama for that? 👍
Or lies of omission like Fox News data-mines only bad news about ACA (Obamacare). Premiums are up, for example, but at a slower rate than before ACA. As Brian points out, many millions are insured through it and – as ignored by Fox – open enrollments this year beat forecasts. In fact, Fox News’ interest in ACA enrollment figures died as soon as they beat their dire predictions when lot rolled out.
I think some cancer rates in women (going by memory) have gone down due to people previously uninsured now getting screenings. This sort of stuff goes unreported by Fox News because their viewers would quickly realize how many lives would be saved by Medicaid expansion. Don’t want to upset the rednecks and geezers glued to their propaganda channel!
There is a lot that’s wrong with Obamacare. If you listen to real news outlets like NPR and PBS (my favorites) you’ll hear both sides. But on balance it is a valuable program that needs bipartisan adjustment to make it long-term viable. Unfortunately, with Fox News stirring up bile in their viewers’ throats right-wingers only hope to kill it. 😕
I’ve blathered too long so I won’t get into Reagan or coal (where Fox covers the mine job losses but not corrupt companies’ safety violations – regulation being evil and all 😉 or opportunities in alternative fuels including natural gas which you’d think the Foxies would love).
No, Steve — your INSURANCE COMPANY gave you higher deductibles and your DOCTOR gave you higher medical expenses in response.
If you have a problem with either, or both — CHANGE either, or both.
“They’ve given us the
The government provides the skeleton upon which the flesh of the economy grows. It is pretty simple. People that think that government does not provide are not thinking very far ahead. Just because the particular stretch of interstate you are driving on doesn’t mean someone else is driving along a different stretch. Or the FDA inspector didn’t inspect your particular cheeseburger.
Instead of Theador Guisel they should have referenced one Charles Dickens. Are there no prisons or workhouses for these Faux fools?
But Dr. Suess would have been great at illustrating the republican economic model. And nary a morsel for Cindy Lou Who.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!
Here is an IRREFUTABLE FACT: during the Reagan years, while the top federal income tax rate was SLASHED from 70% down to 28%, PAYROLL TAXES (also known as FICA taxes or Social Security taxes) SKYROCKETED INTO OUTER SPACE! Remember: currently only the first $118,500 of WAGE INCOME — AND ONLY WAGE INCOME — is subject to FICA taxes. Income from dividends and capital gains — two of the principal income sources for most rich and privileged 1%ers (especially Steve Forbes) — is 100% EXEMPT FROM FICA TAXES! Once again, this all goes back to Universal Tax Rule #1 from Donald Barlett and James Steele’s eye-opening book “America: Who Really Pays The Taxes?”: no matter how you slice it, when rich individuals and big corporations don’t pay taxes or pay less than their fair share, SOMEONE ELSE HAS TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE! Working class Americans not fortunate enough to “hit the birth lottery” (including me) know all too well who that someone else always is.
