I’ve posted a lot recently about Fox News’ preferential treatment toward Newt Gingrich and backhanded treatment of Mitt Romney. For some reason – and I don’t have any theories why – Fox has been in a pro-Romney mode this week. I’ve posted about Sean Hannity helping to spin Romney’s $10,000 bet and hosting Christine “I’m not a witch” O’Donnell for a special segment announcing her endorsement of Romney. Yesterday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley went on Fox & Friends to announce her endorsement of Romney. That night, she returned for a segment on On The Record to further discuss her endorsement. That, plus the anti-Gingrich segments I’ve noted lately adds up to Fox either hedging its bets or falling in line with the Republican conventional wisdom that Romney is the one likeliest to beat President Obama. Or maybe it’s just more disarray in the GOP.
What are your thoughts?
No, wait- that’s just the scandal that was coming out around the time he did.
@ W mace: Yes, Romney may be the hardest for President Obama to beat — but not impossible, and for just the reason you mentioned: he comes off like a rightwing Kerry, an effete blueblood.
And, that will be his undoing . . . just as it was difficult for John McCain to sound like a “man of the people” when he 1) thought people making less than $5 million/year constituted “the middle class”, and 2) had no idea how many properties he owned when asked, you put Mitt Romney, with his throwing $10K bets around the debate stage, his quadrupling the size of his CA beachside mansion, and his declaration that corporations “absolutely are people”, next to Obama, and the latter looks like a Midwestern Populist — Lincoln reincarnate — by comparison . . .
And Newtie’s continuing to skip merrily into the land of megalomania. The most power-hungry of the GOP are beginning to realize that Newt dances to a drummer that only he can hear. He will be too unpredictable crazy to do them much good.

WHAT DID I TELL YA . . .
It was always gonna be Romney at the end — just as it was always gonna be McCain at the end in ’08.
They can talk all they want about Willard not being a “true conservative” — they said the same about J. Sidney: Crazy Annie Coulter said she’d pick Hillary Clinton over McCain; there was all those times Fox put a “D” behind McCain’s name . . .
But, gradually Rudy 9/11 Giuliani, Sleepy Fred, and the rest of the idiots fell out of the GOP Klown Kar, and suddenly, McCain and his “maverickness” was the greatest thing since sliced bread {especially after the Tundra Princess joined his ticket.}
Same thing now — Shellie Bachmann is too crazy for even the teabaggers, Pizza Dude Cain committed the unpardonable sin {messing with white women}, Helmethair Perry sounds like Dumbya on an mp3, and both Trump and Palin weren’t willing to take the pay cut that goes with being President.
That left Newt, and apparently both Fox and the GOP finally caught on to what most sane people have already realized: how the hell is somebody voted out as House Speaker BY HIS OWN DAMN PARTY suddenly the right man for the country as a whole?
With Newt the latest to fall out of the ratings lead, and therefore out of the GOP Klown Kar, it will be Mittens standing at the end . . . and suddenly, healthcare reform is a great idea, Mormonism is great, etc. . .
Nixon trainee Roger Ailes is loyal to the Republican Party. He will support any candidate with an “R” by their name.

My theory is that they saw the numbers shifting and decided to backpedal while there was still a little room to do it without looking like political hipsters.
