Not surprisingly, we had lots of Fox News outrageousness about Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, his father and the Taliban prisoner swap. But those "fair and balanced" folks over at GOP Central also had time to smear Neil deGrasse Tyson and efforts to reduce student loan debt - while also talking up business' right to discriminate. So check out our latest nominees and help determine which one was the most outrageous.
Chris Wallace: “(I)ntelligence sources report that during his captivity, Bergdahl declared himself a warrior for Islam”
Elisabeth Hasselbeck: “Does owning a business mean you’re putting your beliefs on the back burner?”
Brian Kilmeade: “Can you imagine if it turns out that he was actually collaborating, all that time? That would even make it worse. Let’s see what happens, I just know that many are baffled his family appeared with the president at the Rose Garden knowing all these controversial circumstances to his disappearance.”
Megyn Kelly “just asking” Dick Cheney about the Bergdahl/Taliban prisoner swap: “Do you believe the president has endangered the country?”
Bill O’Reilly, smearing Bowe Bergdahl’s father: “He has learned to speak Pashto the language of the Taliban. And looks like a Muslim. He’s also somewhat sympathetic to Islam, actually thanking Allah right in front of the president.”
Psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow on the Bergdahl swap: “Barack Obama does not have the will of the American people – Americanism – in his soul and this swap: somebody who may not feel very American for five people who definitely don’t, is symptomatic of that. It was bound to happen when you have a leader who doesn’t affiliate with patriotism. …He wants out of America, my friend. Trust me.”
Sean Hannity, smearing Bowe Bergdahl’s father: “What that father was saying in the Rose Garden - …Walid (Shoebat) is suggesting he was declaring the Muslim victory call and then the president smiles when he does it, as soon as he hears. He (Shoebat) calls it the ‘war cry of Allah.’ Is that what that is, when he said that?”
Lt. Col. Ralph Peters smearing Bergdahl’s father: “The final straw for the men and women in uniform was when they saw that Rose Garden pageant of craziness where, you know, Pops Taliban and his beard and his remarks in Pashto.”
Gavin McInnes, smearing Neil deGrasse Tyson: “I HATE this guy! …White liberal nerds love this guy so much, he could defecate on them like Martin Bashir’s fantasies and they would dance in the streets. All he does is – he’s drunk with adulation. And he talks about things like, “When I was young in New York, I would get racially profiled when I’d go into stores.” Back then he looked like he was in “The Warriors.” He had a huge Afro and a cut-off shirt and New York was a war zone. Sorry, you fit the profile.”
Tracy Byrnes, discussing Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s bill to reduce student debt: “If we want to do right by our kids, then stop handing out free money to them. Stop it, because all that is doing is allowing colleges and universities to raise tuition hand over fist because they know these kids are going to keep getting more money. We’re just feeding the drug addict here. This is all we keep doing, and a bailout is not going to solve the problem.”
BTW, I saw “Cosmos” last night. Dr. Tyson makes it clear in his program how he feels about certain things – things which will surely anger conservatives. Of special note was the commercial from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, featuring Ron Reagan. When I saw that, I thought “we’ll be reading about this tomorrow.”
