As usual, there was no shortage of Fox News Outrageousness last week. Tonight, we have 10 quotes for you to read through and evaluate. Our subjects include Obamacare, the government shutdown, those poor persecuted Christians and the premature reporting of the death of a U.S. Congressman. And more.
When you’re done, we ask that you vote for the “best” – and by that we mean worst. Because while many can be nominated, only one quote can be The Most Outrageous Quote Of The Week!
This week’s nominees are…
Guy Benson, giving false information about Obamacare, which has a limited sign-up window each year, in order to urge young people to go without health insurance:
If (millennials) say, ‘Forget it I’m going to wait, pay the relatively cheap tax and then if I get sick and if I get into an accident, then the insurers have to take me because I have a pre-existing condition,’ it just makes more sense to do that …from a dollars and cents perspective. I mean, I’m not trying to make a political point there, I’m trying to make an economic point.
Bill O’Reilly: “The Catholic Church scandal was met with glee in much of the liberal press” who “used it as a hammer.”
Senator Ted Cruz explaining why he’s “inspired” to go on holding the U.S. government hostage:
I think there is reason to take heart and to be encouraged. …This was going to be a multi-stage, extended battle. But we’ve also seen a model that I think is the model going forward to defeat Obamacare, to bring back jobs, economic growth, to abolish the IRS, to rein in out-of-control spending. And that model is empowering the American people. I am tonight, I remain inspired because the people all over this country who rose up and made DC listen.
Robin Leach, discussing his old “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” show – and apparently unaware of the huge income disparity in this country: “Couldn’t do this show any more today. There’s so few of ‘em left.”
Andrea “Punch” Tantaros: “The elites believe in multiculturalism, they believe in diversity. The Tea Party believes in patriotism.”
Gretchen Carlson reporting the death of a Congressman, when he was still alive. “Fox News Alert: Congressman Bill Young has passed away. The Florida Republican was 82. …Congressman Bill Young dead at 82.”
Stuart Varney falsely asserting that Congress is exempt from Obamacare. “(I)t is strange sir. I mean you would’ve thought that by having everybody included in Obamacare, ‘Yeah, we’re right there with the people of America.’ Wouldn’t that have been really good publicity? Good PR, and they totally rejected it, I’m surprised.”
Russell Moore: “Religious liberty is under assault all over the place in this country in ways that I think are probably more pronounced than we have seen since the founding era. …(People who do good works based on) religious convictions are being driven out of the public square because they won’t sing out of the hymn book of the sexual revolution.”
John Tamny: “Make no mistake, this is going to be the Obama administration’s Vietnam for just being adolescent approach to health care.”
Steve Forbes, discussing the Affordable Care Act viz a viz the government shutdown. “Yeah, Obamacare short term won politically, but that’s like saying the Titanic won politically. It is still going to sink at the end of the day. This thing is beyond repair.”
If he thinks that contemporary religious groups are being persecuted because “Obamacare” is “forcing” religious individuals operating commercial businesses to make contraception a part of the company’s insurance offering, he really needs to read how the Danbury Baptists felt “persecuted” by the established church of Connecticut. I wonder if Mr Moore would appreciate his tax money being used to pay the salaries of another church’s ministers and lay leaders? That’s what was going on a decade after the State of Connecticut ratified the Constitution (including the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty), and was going on in many states well into the middle of the 19th century.
