Wow, have we got a lot of outrageousness for you this week! We’ve got Liz Cheney talking about torture - I mean Benghazi - Bill O’Reilly attacking “deceiver” Stephen Colbert, Sean Hannity all but calling for armed insurrection against the federal government in a Nevada range dispute and Mike Huckabee thinking that he might be freer in North Korea than he is here. That and much more. Your work is cut out for you, dear readers, as you decide which was Fox News’ most outrageous quote last week.
And the nominees are:
Liz Cheney, responding to Juan Williams call for “robust oversight of intelligence” in the wake of a Senate Intelligence Committee finding that the CIA misrepresented both the nature and effectiveness of its brutal interrogations, i.e. torture: “I want to start by agreeing with Juan that we need more Congressional oversight - of Benghazi, for example.”
Bob Beckel, gratuitously attacking a Muslim guest who wanted to discuss his objections to a church flyer distributed in his son’s public school: “When children get bombed at Boston Marathon, when the Cole gets blown up, when the World Trade Center – nothing is ever said! The only thing you can conclude from that is, most Muslims are either complicit in it, they agree with what these radicals are doing or they’re cowards.”
Bill O’Reilly, blaming progressives’ “entitlement” and “grievance” mentality – and Stephen Colbert - for UConn riots:
“Ah, but Mr. Colbert is a deceiver. …Like many ideological fanatics, Colbert is misguided in the extreme. His analysis is delivered under the guise of comedy but, believe me, he is a true progressive believer, playing exclusively to other believers. Colbert can be dismissed as clueless but the guy does do damage. Because he gives cover to powerful people who are selling Americans a big lie, that this country is bad, that it intentionally oppresses many of its own citizens. That is a lie. That point of view is shameful. America is not perfect be we set the gold standard for opportunity in this world.”
Sean Hannity: “We waterboarded three people. Three. And you know what? I would have done it myself… considering the information we’ve gotten.”
Ralph Peters: “Putin – he’s such a sharp, cool customer. This guy, by agreeing to these talks next week, he’s basically giving us a lollipop to suck on while he robs the candy store. And Putin and his right-hand man, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, they realize that Kerry has no authority and Obama has no courage.”
Rupert Murdoch, discussing Fox News’ effect on the Republican Party: “I think it has absolutely saved it. It has certainly given voice and hope to people who didn’t like all that liberal championing thrown at them on CNN. By the way, we don’t promote the Tea Party. That’s bull****. We recognize their existence.”
Sean Hannity, all but calling for armed insurrection as he egged on a rancher who has refused to abide by federal court rulings: “You said you’re going to take this to the end. I gotta be honest. I’m worried about the encroachment of our federal government that spies …on Americans illegally, we now know we have an IRS that harasses, intimidates, it tries to silence opposition voices, I’m worried about the lies that are told to us about the NSA, about the IRS, about what happened in Benghazi and the lies that sold health care. I’m concerned that the government is overreaching here …and I don’t know why they’re taking a stand here.”
Mike Huckabee: “I’m beginning to think that there’s more freedom in North Korea sometimes than there is in the United States.”
