Fox Nation editor and O'Reilly Factor ambush producer Jesse Watters deliberately race-baits President Obama, Michelle Obama and constantly smears them over everything from having too many Christmas trees to saying the president's approval rating is falling when it's actually rising. But it turns out, he's also an Obama supporter. Or at least, he donated enough money to Obama's campaign to get himself onto an FEC disclosure form.
Politico found his name in an FEC filing that reported him as having donated $500 to the Obama Victory Fund. Politico noted that the donation was made one week after Watters called Obama supporters "zombies" who supported the president "as long as there was Obamacare, gay marriage and abortion on demand."
Politico said that neither Watters nor Fox News responded to their requests for more information.
But as Tommy Christopher at Mediaite notes, there are reasons to be suspicious of Watters' motives:
The donation, received on Sept. 26, came at a time when President Obama really had Mitt Romney on the ropes, just before the first presidential debate essentially evened up the race.
The revelation is a joyful one for critics of Fox News, as Watters’ antics are the reddest of red meat, making him reviled among liberals. However, there’s every chance that this is some kind of publicity stunt. The FEC donor search shows no previous donations by Watters, to any candidate or committee, and coming, as it did, when all seemed lost for Romney, Watters may have been sowing the seeds for some future bit. His subsequent declaration that Obama voters are “zombies” who would support the President “as long as there was Obamacare, gay marriage and abortion on demand” fit a little too neatly into the hypocrisy narrative.
To put it another way, either Watters' long-time conservative persona on air and on the internet is a sham or his donation is. Which is the more likely?
Christopher also notes that donations over $200 are required to be reported. If Watters really wanted his donation to fly under the radar, he'd have donated less. Surely that extra $300 was not going to make a huge difference in the race, especially at that late date.
Unless Watters had a secondary purpose of some kind.
Tell every conservative nationwide about the intern’s donation.
NOTE TO MASSES
Spread this to your followers. Next time Intern Jesse confronts you with his camera guy, tell this gem to him: “Hey, Jesse! I didn’t know you donated money to President Obama’s campaign? Giving $500 to his campaign was very generous.”
Guarantee that video would never be aired on Fox “News” Channel.
Watters: Hey guys- I support the President now!
Ailes: Well, we still need Jesse Watters to stalk people… so exempt him from that.
I’d split the difference and just say Watters himself is a sham.
Unless Watters had a secondary purpose of some kind.
Like ensuring four more years of an Obama presidency — and, therefore, more smearing from Watters and Fox . . .
