If ever there was proof of Fox Nation's blatant disregard for its own stated purpose of tolerance, civility and "fair and balanced coverage of the news," it's one of their latest "fired up" posts called, Is the Obama Regime Messing With the WH Visitor Logs? Calling the Obama administration the "Obama regime" is deliberately inflammatory enough but if you actually read the article, it's a blatant attempt to suggest something sinister about the Obama administration over nothing. Well, unless you think that leaving out the names of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton from an official list of attendees at a White House party in 2009 in sinister.
Although the word "regime" means "a system of government," Dictionary.com notes the negative connotations of the word in its examples and related words. The examples include "a fascist regime ; the regime of Fidel Castro" and "a dictatorial regime." So don't tell me that Fox Nation didn't choose the term deliberately to suggest some kind of facist abuse of power missing from the headline in the original story Fox Nation excerpted: Depp, Burton Didn't Make White House Visitor List
Apparently, the White House threw a Halloween party in 2009 and didn't include the names of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton in its visitor logs. Even Fox Nation noted, "A White House official said that's because performers don't always go through the formal White House entrance procedure."
So where's the there there - other than the excuse to incite mistrust and hatred in a favorite target?
I haven't read the comments but I'll bet there are some that are real doozies. If you find any death threats or overt racism, send them to me and I'll post.
Even for how much I hate Johnny Depp and his criminally overrated movies, I think the level of venom Foxnews.com and Fox Nation are putting into him as their new Hollywood punching bag is obscene.
Seriously- If you merged the DNA of Sean Penn and Michael Moore to create a new person, then gay married them to Jeanine Garfalo… that person wouldn’t be as jihaded against as they’re doing to Depp right now. While I agree that Depp should be shamed for saying things like Middle America’s too stupid to get him:
http://nation.foxnews.com/johnny-depp/2011/11/14/johnny-depp-middle-america-doesnt-appreciate-intelligent-films
Other articles attacking him a bit more gratuitously, such as this one:
http://nation.foxnews.com/johnny-depp/2011/12/05/johnny-depp-christmas-tune-blasted-christians
Those are just ugly. Seriously- “petty” would be a compliment. Once again, remember who’s saying this. Saying something there…
Chances are this would have slid if they weren’t looking for new ways to attempt turning Depp’s fans on him to ruin his career, beause it’s an oversight that not even they could turn into a story without Depp the Boogeyman’s name on it. I’m presenting this theory in all seriousness, and I might not even be embellishing that much.
