Fox Nation suggests that Democrats have declared war on traditional marriage via an inflammatory headline that – surprise! – distorts the truth. It's just the "fair and balanced" website's latest display of divisiveness and hatred for America.
The Fox Nation post, “Dems Declare War on Words ‘Husband,’ ‘Wife,’” originates from a Washington Examiner article of the same title.
The first sentence, fully excerpted on Fox Nation, is deliberately inflammatory:
More than two dozen Democrats have proposed legislation that would eliminate the words “husband” and “wife” from federal law.
Once you read on, it's clear that the whole effort is about as revolutionary as saying “he or she” instead of “he.”
Those “gendered terms” would be replaced by “gender-neutral” words like “spouse” or “married couple,” according to the bill from Rep. Lois Capps, D-Calif.
…She said her bill would also have other benefits if it became law. In one example, she noted that U.S. law says it’s illegal to threaten the president’s wife, but says nothing about the president’s husband.
Oh.
Not surprisingly, the readers at Fox Nation jumped at the chance to engage in their favorite practice of seething with hostility:
And this being Fox Nation, it was no surprise to see someone promoting murder.
Is this Fox Nation editor Jesse Watters’ idea of tolerance, mutual respect and striving for unity?
Once again I quote from the Fox Nation “Statement of Purpose”:
This is a place for people who believe we live in a great country… We believe we should enjoy the company and support of each other, delighting in the creativity, ingenuity, and work ethic of one and all, while observing the rules of civility and mutual respect and, most importantly, strengthening our diverse society by striving for unity.
The Fox Nation is committed to the core principles of tolerance, open debate, civil discourse, and fair and balanced coverage of the news. It is for those opposed to intolerance, excessive government control of our lives, and attempts to monopolize opinion or suppress freedom of thought, expression, and worship.
And yet Watters’ O’Reilly Factor boss, Bill O’Reilly, complains about “smear merchants” elsewhere online.
