Fox Gushes Over Ryan: He Listens To Metallica And Led Zeppelin!

Posted by Ellen -390.20pc on August 11, 2012 · Flag

Fox News has been gushing all day about Mitt Romney going along with their choice of choosing Paul Ryan as a Vice Presidential candidate. As part of the enthusiasm, host Bret Baier asked Fox contributor Stephen Moore – who just happened to be in Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin – if Ryan would be a factor in the youth vote. You betcha! Why? Because he walks into meetings listening to Metallica and Led Zeppelin on his IPod! And he’s an avid bow hunter!

In an exchange fairly typical of Fox coverage, Baier asked, “You talk about the generational excitiement. Is that a factor? I mean, the youth vote, we often talk about it. Can it factor in for Republicans this time?”

Moore answered:

I think it sure could. You know, you go to a meeting with Paul Ryan and he walks in with his IPod playing and his earbuds in and you ask him what he’s listening to and he’s listening to Led Zeppelin or he’s listening to Metallica. You know, this is a guy who has some interesting habits, some interesting hobbies I guess I should say. He enjoys the sport of noodling, which involves sticking, basically, sticking your arm in the face of a fish. (Baier chuckled heartily). He’s a bow hunter. He’s an avid bow hunter. So I think this is a guy, this is a guy we will learn, as people get to know him a little bit better, who has sort of an outsized personality. He’s a big personality. He doesn’t take himself too seriously but he has the kind of optimism that Bill Kristol was talking about, that I think allows him to make the case that goes well beyond the austerity case that we’ve all come to know him for making on the national stage but allows him really to make a much more optimistic case about the direction of the country going forward.

This could be the second coming of St. Ronnie, folks!

doesn’t matter what Rep Ryan listens to, he’s still an asshat

Mark, it depends on the genre. I recently ran across a study where they did all the genres of rock to bust the myth that it influences behavior. One of the more surprising finds was that, regardless of factors like genre, subject matter or the intelligence of the participant… the more prone someone was to being close-minded and vulgar, the simpler they liked their music.

In fact, part of what makes this so strange is that it’s even insular to the bands they’re fans of. Like, to use Metallica as an example in a vain attempt to keep on topic… people who tested high for negative personality traits hated their more technically impressive songs. The ones who were the worst, the only song they liked pre-black album was Seek and Destroy.

That’s always stuck with me, because I’ve noticed that- the cruder someone is, the more they hate their music having a level of complexity. Though that would explain the 90s…

@mlp!:

“I do find it ironic that as one of his few ‘real’ jobs, he once was the driver for the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile.”

Know what I find ironic? According to opposition research,

Ryan said he regularly worked out to P90X {page 16.}

Remember how the rightwingnuts regularly excoriate the First Lady for her emphasis on nutrition and exercise? I can’t WAIT for their response to this . . .

I recently saw something that most listeners to rock radio (even so-called “alternative” rock stations) tend to lean Republican—even more than country music, which has been the stereotyped music of choice for conservatives. Sounds like Fox News is trying to pander to what they hope might be newer and younger audiences.

Given that even some of the pukes at FoxGOPTV are very concerned about the negative reception that Ryan’s “Kill Grandma budget plan” received, and even Pig Newton called it right-wing social engineering and a disaster, and that his idol Ayn Rand was an avowed athiest who condemned the very government she sucked off of, they’re going to spend the next 3 months trying to make Ryan and his boss Etch-a-Sketch Rmoney look cool and hip and popular with all ages. At the same time they’re going to try to make President Obama look as bad as they can push it. The Kochsucking masters have sent out the orders.

Picking Paul Ryan still seems like Mittens can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. Remember all the speculation about Mittens “appealing” to particular voting blocks? There was another teabagged pretty boy, Marco Rubio, to win the Latino vote. One ice cream away from a bypass, Chris Christie for his rabidness. And I don’t even remember the names, for the women’s vote.

Now Mitttens picks Ryan as “an intellectual leader in the gNOpig”

Really? I venture Jon Stewart will skewer Ryan, again, by re-airing the foolishness of his tax plan. Also, Ryan already started pontificating with some idiocy about “Rights come from dog, not from the government” to what I only have to answer by looking at the origins of the mormons. That is not the opinion of an intellectual; it is dogma parroted from the pulpit. It is downhill from there for the buyble thumping gNOpigs.

3 months away from the election, why is Mittens painting himself into a corner again? The gNOpig panacea consists of “tax cuts for the job creators” and over 10 years later of tax cuts, the “job creators” took their tax cuts and created jobs. Offshore.

How are those two idiots, Mittens and Ryan, going to tell the elderly and retiring boomers their benefits are going to be cut, that if they want to eat and have their Medicare, they need to go back to work? With Mittens still NOT releasing his tax returns?

Why is the gNOpig at large running straight for the cliff and screaming THE FIRST THING they want to do is repeal healthcare reform?

You know what else this reminds me of?
Batman and Robin.
In bizarro world. They are set to screw the geriatric Fox audience while trusty Rafalca prances to “Moby Dick”

So because he listens to Led Zeppelin and Metallica it makes it alright to screw over the American middle class.I’m learning something new every day.

I don’t really give a shit what Ryan listens to….but I do find it ironic that as one of his few ‘real’ jobs, he once was the driver for the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile. Those comical Republicans….they just can’t resist Vice-Presidential candidates with wieners in their past! (or future!)

Will Fux Noise start the “Ryan for President 2016” now or wait until MagicUnderwear Man is defeated in November?

I was referring to Metallica’s music, not their idiotic business practices. They started losing their edge with the Black album, and strode into full suckitude with Load (which also happens to be when they cut their hair). That COMBINED with their resentment of anyone getting their music for free after they’d made a huge name/bank account for themselves is the icing on the cake. I don’t think I even need to mention “St. Anger” and that recent atrocity with Lou Reed. Although, I have a friend who went to the Orion Festival this summer, and said it was a great time…affordable, good atmosphere, great bands (that Metallica actually showed up on stage with), the Metallica guys were very affable with the crowd and provided free bottled water, etc. Definitely refreshing to hear.

I take back what I said about Led Zeppelin. In my defense, I was drunk at 1:45 or whenever I made my initial comment.

Oh, and Pearl Jam was never very good, nor was Korn. I’ll stick by Nirvana, though, and disagree with you on the fact that nobody wants to learn their stuff, that’s definitely not true, especially with teenagers now.

ANYWAY, it’s irrelevant what Paul Ryan listens to, because he’s still a right-wing extremist who wants to fuck EVERYBODY with his budget. He could name drop Ride’s “Nowhere” as his favorite album of all time and bust out a guitar and shred out microtonal solos like Greg Ginn, and it still wouldn’t change the fact that he is who he is to me.

So he likes Zeppelin and Metallica, I don’t care. Clinton was a big fan of Elvis Presley, but I don’t think teabaggers would love him for that reason. Who does Mitt like?, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir? and if he does, again, so what. We all have our taste.

Every generation has its music, styles and slang. The present laughs at the choices the older made, and the older does the same with the present. It’s always been that way and always will be.

I grew up in the 70’s and love Zeppelin also. Enjoy your youth everyone. One day people are telling you, get a haircut you god damn hippie, and before you know it you’re a Rogaine failure. With us men it’s worse. One morning we just wake up and we all look like Dick Cheney, eck. It’s hell getting old.

Here’s a Led Zeppelin classic that I think fits for Ryan and Fox News lovers. Dazed and Confusehttp://youtu.be/auDv6cf2PBMd

Brian, if you’re gonna play the whole “nobody likes ____ because Fox News likes them now” bit, at least do it right.

Metallica is still a strong seller, they’re still considered an important band musically. The reason few people respect them is because of how much they mistreat their fans- they’re so spiteful to the hand that feeds them that they’ve become the very face of musicians that treat their fans like that.

It can be compared to celebrities that are hot now- Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift sell themselves on role model images, and most people who know anything about their personal lives know that they’re both actually horrible, horrible people off camera.

But their music sells- in enough quantity to sweep award shows that are based purely on sales.

And any musician worth their salt, regardless of age sees your Zeppelin comment as fighting words. I know 12 year olds that would rather I teach them a song from a 30-40 year old band when I can give a lesson than the stuff they’re growing up with. You want bands that only seem to survive in retro off Hot Topic and Hipsters, look at Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Korn. No one’s learning them, no one’s covering them, Pearl Jam’s only getting radio airplay because of their deal with Target…

Ok, stopping before this becomes a flame.

Most people stopped giving a shit about Metallica after about 1997, when they cut their hair, and nobody gives a shit about Led Zeppelin unless a.) they’re old enough to have seen them b.) they’re 17 and thought the shirt looked cool at Hot Topic, or c.) they’re in college and truly embracing pot for the first time.

And the average FoxNoise viewer is asking “Who? Who’s he listening to? Are they some of those rock-and-roll people? I wouldn’t know. Anyone after 1965 is too new-fangled for me.”
Robert Urban commented 2012-08-12 01:14:58 -0400 · Flag
So the idiots at FOX think that listening to 30 and 40 year old bands will appeal to 20 year olds? Well maybe to their parents.
