Fox & Friends got a twofer earlier this week when it showcased a threatened lawsuit by Lt. Col. Matthew Dooley against the U.S. Military. Dooley is not only a virulent Islamophobe but he apparently hates President Obama. So when Dooley’s representative told guest host Peter Johnson, Jr. that the Pentagon has capitulated to jihadists, Johnson was all ears and no challenge.
As I wrote in my post on Crooks and Liars about this segment (where you can catch me on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays), Dooley’s elective class to military officers instructed that there is no such thing as moderate Islam and included materials from guest lecturers suggesting President Obama is a Muslim.
So what’s not to like if you’re Fox News?

As I see it, this is a “hen and egg” situation: were they already lacking the virtue of equilibrium when they enlisted or did the frustration of not being promoted any higher compromise their equilibrium (making them “bananas”)?
Anyway, although I’m often inclined to think otherwise, it does seem that the American militiary still has its head on its shoulders. That’s reassuring in this world where so many seem to recommend the adoption of gorilla-style chest-thumping, show-my-canine-teeth roaring as the primary approach to foreign affairs. When push comes to shove, that’s what the foxies and most of the American media think Ahmadinejad is doing: why ape him of all people?
Romney and Ryan may be beating the war drums because that’s what their base wants to hear. Personally, all that mealy-mouthed talk about being strong and making others obey scares the bejezus out of me.

@patrick tolle: It’s not just the Army — remember, Ollie North was a lite col. in the Marines.
@mlp !: Yes, there is a line in the UCMJ regarding his behavior — and, to the best of my recollection, that line goes something like: “Any service member who uses contemptuous words against the Commander-in-Chief . . . shall be punished as a Court-Martial may direct.”
Perhaps someone should remind the LTC of this fact . . .

Someone should remind these fools (Dooley is not alone, more’s the pity) that there are more Muslims than Christians (small and big “c” combined) in the world and that America starts a war with them at it’s own peril.
I doubt that the rest of the world will follow yet another Bush-like approach to peace-making on earth, especially after realising that there exists an alternative approach called diplomacy.
