Fox News has found itself another African American to fixate on as a racist and – for extra old, white viewer points – attach to the Obama administration. In this case, it’s a Department of Homeland Security manager who runs a website advocating a race war against whites. Terrible, yes. But Fox News’ outrage is a bit suspect given, in just one case, how it barely noticed Jack Hunter, a white, Republican racist working for Rand Paul, who contributes to Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller and has appeared numerous times on Fox Business.
According to FoxNews.com a “DHS manager in charge of buying weapons and ammunition for the government” also runs a website advocating a race war against whites called “War on the Horizon,” which reportedly states, “(I)n order for Black people to survive the 21st century, we are going to have to kill a lot of whites – more than our Christian hearts can possibly count.” There’s nothing to defend there. The man has since been put on administrative leave and will almost certainly be terminated once the proper procedures have been completed.
But while Fox is the first to whine about double standards among black people, where’s their outrage over Jack Hunter, the federal employee who works for Senator Rand Paul? If you don’t know the name, Huffington Post has the disturbing details, such as his role as a former shock jock called “The Southern Avenger,” his penchant for wearing a Confederate flag mask during public appearances and honoring John Wilkes Booth with birthday toasts.
But Hunter is not just a federal employee. As Media Matters reports, he has appeared on Fox Business Network more than 20 times and contributes to Fox News contributor Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller. So how did Fox News react when news came out about Hunter’s views? With a FoxNews.com headline highlighting Paul’s support for his aide and a second paragraph suggesting there’s “no proof” Hunter ever made any racist comments.
In fact, FoxNews.com didn’t even mention Hunter’s connection with its own network until the very last paragraph of its article and made no mention of whether or not they join Paul in standing behind him or admit they overlooked his other activities, just as they are now condemning DHS for missing the racist views behind its employee’s website.
