Last week, Fox News executive vice president Michael Clemente said of an elevator video showing football player Ray Rice hitting his then fiancée that Fox would no longer air the video because “continuing to show it is simply overdoing it for shock value, and not for journalistic reasons.” Either Clemente was overruled or some of his underlings went rogue three times that same day.
As Media Matters documented, The Five showed the video twice. It was aired another time an hour later, on Special Report. Whatever the reason Fox crossed its own line, the network proved once again that shock value takes precedence over journalism.
I hope Clemente and the producers of the Five and Special Report had a nice conversation about network policy.
