Fox continued its tradition of pointing to a snowstorm as “proof” that climate change is not a real problem.
On Your World, host Neil Cavuto said that climate change “activists” (as opposed to scientists) blame rising ocean temperatures for record snowfall in New England this winter. He introduced one of Fox’s favorite climate-change deniers, meteorologist Joe Bastardi, by quoting Bastardi’s claim that this was “one big snow job.”
Bastardi is not a climate scientist. But he called the record snows “a natural cyclical process.” He argued, “In the late 1950s, you had very similar situation. There was six major areas in the Atlantic and Pacific where there were strong deviations from normal just like you’re seeing now. …I’m even concerned about next winter because I don’t think we’re quite out of this yet.”
”When they argue the warmer water - and I guess that burns into the Arctic thingamajig that’s cold," Cavuto sneered about climate scientists, "they say that that is all global warming, climate change, whatever it is, so what is creating this phenomenon?”
Bastardi repeated that this is a “natural cyclical processes that we’ve seen for years and years, and we’re able to study it. …The weather is nature’s way of balancing out an imbalance it can never correct because of the design of the system, and these folks who think that humans are in control of nature, well, you do the math and add it up.”
Cavuto gave him the stamp of approval “Well, I go to you for those answers because you’re that good.”
Unlike Bastardi, real scientists expect a warmer world to be a wetter world.
