Remember the Fox affiliate host who complained about Lady GaGa's "jigaboo" music? She has been suspended for three days.
As we previously reported, Kristi Capel, an anchor at Fox's Cleveland affiliate, commended Lady Gaga's Oscar performance by noting that her usual fare is "jigaboo music."
“It’s hard to really hear her voice with all that jigaboo music — whatever you want to call it — jigaboo!”
Capel claimed she didn't know the meaning of the word and offered one of those "if you were offended" half apologies. Later, she tweeted a more complete apology.
Yesterday, after the video went viral, Raw Story reported that Capel had been suspended for the rest of the week (three days): "However, executives would not confirm if Capel had been formally suspended, or if she was being paid for the remainder of the week," Raw Story noted.
You can file this under "Better Late Than Never" and "Something Is Better Than Nothing."
The original video is below.
No one is bullying her- They’re reporting that she wasn’t actually sorry in her first apology, and that the network had to be pressured into taking some kind of action to ease the outrage. There’s a difference, and if this is bullying, how do you feel about the calls for O’Reilly to be suspended on how he’s responding to his on-air lies being called out?
Which brings me to something I wanna ask-
@michael: My personal experience with hearing racists use that word is that I’ve only heard it used against black women. In fact, the only time I heard it used on a man was in a “Don’t be a bitch!” comment. Ironically, that’s also the only time I’ve ever heard a black person use it on another black person. Even in movies, it seems like it’s only used against women, or in emasculation comments. But I’ve never seen a definitive definition for it, I just assumed it was an N-Word surrogate in official capacity, but something gender specific on the street.
Could you clear this up, or tell me how close to the truth that is?
