In yet another example of Fox News showing preference to Israel over our own president (while accusing President Obama of not loving America enough), host Neil Cavuto gave a friendly platform to Israel’s former ambassador to the U.N. to scold Obama about the Iran nuclear deal.
The pretext for the discussion was a meeting Obama held with Jewish leaders about the Iran deal. Cavuto asked former ambassador Dan Gillerman what he would tell Obama.
That was all the opening Gillerman needed to start swinging.
Gillerman said the president needs to “rise above the petty differences you have with the Prime Minister of Israel.” (As if it were Israel providing all the aid money to us, instead of the other way around.)
Gillerman also instructed Obama to “get your act together” and realize that the deal is “a bad deal, a dangerous deal, not just for Israel, but for your allies in the region and for civilization as we know it.”
The Iranians, Gillerman said, “swear that they will wipe Israel off the face of the map. They deny the Holocaust while preparing the next one.”
Actually, that’s not correct. As The Washington Post noted, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was mistranslated as having said Israel should be wiped off the map. That mistranslation was then reiterated in English signs in Iran. Regardless, saying that Israel should be destroyed is rather different from vowing to do it.
Furthermore, as Pat Buchanan noted (though he’s not someone I usually cite), Ahmadinejad was in power for eight years and did nothing to wipe Israel off the map. Buchanan also said about Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, “Bibi’s sitting on 200 atom bombs and he’s fretting over Iran, which hasn’t even produced weapons grade uranium?”
Of course, Cavuto did not challenge Gillerman on any of those points.
Gillerman continued, “This is an evil regime, and appeasing it is as dangerous as it was to try and appease Hitler and we know how that ended.”
