Fox darling Dr. Ben Carson intimated that he sees the veterans suffering in the VA scandal as little more than political pawns today. Carson announced on Fox News that the VA problems are “a gift from God” to enlighten us about what’s wrong with public-run health care. Then he lectured all politicians to stop playing politics with our country’s problems.
On America’s News HQ today, host Uma Pemmaraju asked Carson, “There are those who are saying what’s happening now is also a preview of what we might see once the ObamaCare system is fully in place in this country.”
She failed to mention that the people saying that are conservatives. Oh, and she also failed to mention that the overwhelming majority of veterans feel favorably toward the VA.
But, apparently, Carson was too busy polishing his conservative cred (and potential Republican candidacy) to do any actual research into how “the people” (not to mention veterans) feel. He replied:
I think what’s happening with the veterans is a gift from God to show us what happens when you take layers and layers of bureaucracy and place them between the patients and the health care provider. And if we can’t get it right, with the relatively small number of veterans, how in the world are you going to do it with the entire population? You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out.
Ironically, Carson then began scolding politicians for playing politics rather than solving problems. Carson added:
We need seriousness here rather than just political speak. "How can I look better? How can my party look better?" And I’m saying this to both Democrats and Republicans: Stop, and think about the people. You know, you guys are servants. You’re not rulers. So first of all, get that out of your mind. And think about what can we do with the problems that we have to solve in this nation, which are substantial. Some of which threaten to actually destroy our nation.
Carson might want to consider taking his own advice before lecturing anyone else.
