Even Donald Trump realized he had gone too far in predicting how well he’ll do with “the African Americans” and had to walk back his minority awesomeness a bit.
On MediaBuzz, host Howard Kurtz asked Trump if he’ll “reach out to minorities more” if he becomes the Republican nominee:
TRUMP: Oh absolutely. I think I am going to do great with the African American minority. You know if you look at minorities, the African American poll came out - I was at 25%. No Republican’s been above seven or eight percent. I am going to do great with the African Americans. I think I am going to do great with the Hispanics. I think I am going to do great with the Asians.
Despite his “Oh, absolutely,” Trump also said, “I don’t know if I want to change so much.”
But that’s because he’s already so great with “the blacks.”
TRUMP: I don’t know if I want to change so much. Look, the African Americans love me because they know I am going to bring back jobs.
KURTZ: Not all African Americans.
TRUMP: …Look at African-American people in their prime - 30s and 40s and 50s, look at their unemployment rate. They want jobs. They are going to like me better than they like Obama. The truth is Obama has done nothing for them.
That was too much for Kurtz. “Wait.... Did you just say African Americans are going to like you better than the first African-American president?”
Trump must have realized his braggadocio had gone too far, maybe for the first time ever. But not by much, according to Trump's reckoning.
TRUMP: I think that relatively speaking - I mean he does have a slight advantage in all fairness. But I think, relatively speaking, when I am finished I think they will absolutely love Donald Trump.
Like Heather at Crooks and Liars, I seriously doubt Trump has even a fraction of the minority support he’s boasting about. The New York Times reported last month, “Polling on African-Americans’ views of Mr. Trump is scarce because so few vote in Republican primaries. But in a nationwide poll of voters released this month by Quinnipiac University, 88 percent of black respondents answered ‘no’ when asked if Mr. Trump ‘cares about the needs and problems of people like you.’” The Washington Post notes that a “November 2015 Latino Decisions survey of residents in battleground states found Trump’s net favorability rating among Latinos to be minus 56.”
Nevertheless, I think it’s dangerous to underestimate the power of the Republicans, in general, and Donald Trump, in particular, to sell Americans a load of horse s***, just like they did with George W. Bush’s Iraq war and just like they are now, with Trump's candidacy.

Yo, Donnie — that means there is a majority (75%) of African Americans (myself included) you DON’T poll favorably with.
Man — you’d think a business mogul such Trump would understand simple math like that. Then again, he DID declare bankruptcy four times . . .

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Trump isn’t a racist. He’s just a magnet for ’em! 👍
We’ll see if The Donald’s ‘Archie Bunker’ (or worse since white nationalists are pimping him too) fan base and minorities mix. I’d think like gasoline and a match.
One bankruptcy may be a bump in the road but FOUR is quite simply diabolic.
A plurality of
Republicans may be stoopid enough to fall for Trump’sarrogant arsehole schtick, but when it comes to the big event, no way.
Good God when will we be rid of this cretin? I hated him when he was nothing but a rich real estate asshole. I hated him more when NBC gave him a crappy “reality” show. Now he illustrates and personifies DAILY the “Ugly American”, and shows why the rest of the world hates America.
Way to go Donald – Make America Hate Again
