Just before President Obama spoke from the White House on a looming government shutdown, Monica Crowley appeared on Your World for some pre-trashing of the president’s words. In an angry voice, she said, “He will not compromise, he will not negotiate. It’s my way or the highway. This is the way he’s been, Neil, for the last 5 years. Why anybody on Capitol Hill or, frankly, anybody in America expects him now to suddenly change.”
This is a Fox News/GOP talking point that News Hounds previously debunked. So has Raw Story.
Even host Neil Cavuto seemed to acknowledge this was baloney. He said, “But (Obama) has negotiated extensions in the health care law. It’s not as if he would be caving to offer yet another one.”
But Crowley seemed intent on spreadingg doom and gloom. She said that if Obamacare goes through, “The whole thing is a catastrophe. The American people really start to feel the pain of this, and then the Republicans next year can say, ‘We tried everything on God’s green earth, everything within our power to try to stop this and slow it down, and the Democrats said no.’”
Cavuto did his part to pin any blame on President Obama, saying that if there is a credit downgrade and a big market sell off, “That would fall under this President. …Regardless of whether you want to blame someone, it would not look good to have a market tumult and then a credit downgrade and be the first President to experience it, and, technically in this President’s case, for the second time.”
But a CNN poll showed 46% would blame Republicans for a shtudown, compared to 36% who blame President Obama. A CBS poll showed 44% would blame Republicans and 35% would blame the President.
Crowley nevertheless pretended that Republicans were “trying to save the country from total fiscal disaster.”
