Dick Morris visited the Hannity show tonight to explain how he got it so wrong with his prediction of a “landslidey” Romney win. After blaming Hurricane Sandy and acknowledging that he got it “dead wrong” about the demographic turnout, Morris made a jaw-dropping admission. That his prediction was designed to help turn around Romney’s failing campaign.
Morris hinted at what was to come when he said early on, “I called it as I saw it from the polling and I did the best I could and I also worked very hard for Romney.” That right there is disturbing. Morris is billed by Fox News as a “political analyst” and is usually introduced on the air, as he is in this segment, as “former Clinton advisor.” And he did not disclose that he was working for Romney when he made his predictions, at least none that I saw.
But later, Morris openly admitted his prediction was an election ploy:
Sean, I hope people aren’t mad at me about it… I spoke about what I believed and I think that there was a period of time when the Romney campaign was falling apart, people were not optimistic, nobody thought there was a chance of victory and I felt that it was my duty at that point to go out and say what I said. And at the time that I said it, I believe I was right.
In other words, don’t hold a grudge because I was only trying to help the home team.
But there’s good news for progressives in Morris’ latest prediction at the end of the segment:
The Republican Party will recover because ultimately, this president’s policies are wrong and they’re going to lead to an economic collapse in the second term which is going to make the Republican Party look great.
Could there be any better indicator that good economic times are ahead for the country, President Obama and Democrats?
Video available at Mediaite which didn’t just miss the import of Morris’ confession, they didn’t even think it worth mentioning.
And then while Morris is trying to minimize his errors, Sean Hannity tries to throw him two lifelines. First, Hannity starts trying to cry foul about the votes themselves, using uncorroborated rumors about Romney votes not being counted (not acknowledging that there may have been a considerable Romney pre-vote, among other things) and then trying to suck up to Morris with the helpful comment that “You do the best you can”.
I have no problem with that because babbling can be so destructive. That, of course, is why Fox took the Benghazi story and ran off with it, like a dog with the juicy T-bone steak earmarked for Daddy’s boss. Idle chatter aimed at harming democrats and the current government is still the only thing on the menu at Fox.
However, it also seems that the story was leaked to Cantor (who sits on one of the Congressional security committees) a couple of weeks before the election. Heard one of the Curvy Couch Crew (Fox and Friends) say that “en passant” on Sunday so it must be true. :-> Seems also that Rupert Murdoch tweeted as much when the affair become public.
Details are still emerging (e.g. seems Ms. Blackwell knew stuff about Benghazi being a covert CIA operation that had not appeared in the press) but I believe Mr. Cantor may have committed committed treason by keeping crucial information from the Commander-in-Chief.
I trust that we shall not be hearing any of the gory details on Fox.
*Better yet, just go away. Retire to whatever little toe-sucker’s paradise exists and stay there. With any luck, you’ll inadvertently suck some hooker’s athlete’s foot-infested toes and lose the use of your tongue.
Did Slanthead bring up his latest election analysis (the one he ranted about for an hour or more on the radio Mon afternoon)? This is is the theory that Obama covered up the Petreaus affair which in turn led to the Benhgazi attack, and if only the media had exposed this, Romney would be President-elect!
Can we get a re-count in Ohio, folks??
Yup, Hannity has fully recovered is back in attack mode. Any bets on how many times we’ll hear about Rev. Wright, Ayers, et. al., between now and Inauguration Day 20017?
Congrats, lil’ dick.
Your landslide prediction was about as effective in helping Romney win, as your prediction for the 2000
presidential race was for the political careers of Condi Rice and Hillary Clinton . . .
.
On a liter note, most Foxites now admitting they work for GOP. Who’s next …
