Senator Ted Cruz probably couldn’t find anything to blame President Obama for when asked about his upcoming trip to Roseburg, Oregon, so Cruz changed the subject to blame Obama for the murder of a Texas deputy sheriff over the summer.
Cruz spent most of the 8:35 softball interview bashing Obama and Hillary Clinton over Russia and Syria. But at about 6:10, host Bill Hemmer teed up a question for Cruz to attack Obama for going to Oregon.
“Do you have a problem with President Obama going to Oregon this weekend to console the community in Roseburg?" Hemmer asked.
CRUZ: He is welcome to go anywhere. Now, I would note he didn’t come to the funeral of Deputy Goforth in Texas who was murdered and murdered because in significant part of the escalating rhetoric from President Obama from the Attorney General against law enforcement. He doesn’t seem to stand with the brave men and women the police and fire fighters and first responders and instead he’s vilified them.”
Any real journalist would have pushed back on that comment and noted, for example, as the Baltimore Sun reported, that Obama honored firefighters in Maryland just a few days ago:
Obama spoke for 12 minutes, honoring the members of the "selfless profession" and their families. "You remember them as moms and dads, siblings and spouses, friends and neighbors," the president said. "Today we salute them and remember them as the heroes that they were.”
Instead of challenging Cruz, Hemmer moved on to talk about Cruz’ presidential campaign.
