Fox’s Chris Wallace looked more like a Republican strategist than a news host as he used much of Fox News Sunday to exploit the Hillary Clinton email controversy on behalf of the GOP – and his former colleague-turned-Clinton-opponent, Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee has no credentials in law, national security or diplomacy. But Wallace trotted him out as a viable expert by describing him as “a Clinton critic since his days as governor of Arkansas” and someone “who’s dealt with the Clintons since before his days as governor of Arkansas.” There was no mention of Huckabee’s personal stake in damaging Clinton’s presidential chances.
I’m surprised Fox didn’t bring on “former Clinton advisor” (and Hillary hater) Dick Morris for even more “insight.”
Wallace’s first question to Huckabee could have been scripted by a Huckabee campaign staffer: “So, Governor, what did Hillary Clinton do wrong?”
Wallace also asked Huckabee, “Why do you think that Secretary Clinton did it?” As if Huckabee would have any real knowledge about that. There were a number of other leading questions such as, “How will we ever know whether that’s a complete record?” about the emails being turned over and – just to make sure Huckabee tied this to previous Clinton controversies: “How familiar does all this seem to you?”
Wallace even laughed appreciatively when Huckabee likened the Clintons to the Mafia:
HUCKABEE: Look, these are people who know how to play politics. They play to win. They use every tool at their disposal to win. I’ve always had a decent personal relationship with the Clintons. Still do. I look at it like Michael Corleone once looked at the business he was in. It’s not personal, it’s just business. …But, Chris, it is a tough business, and when you challenge the Clinton political machine, whether it’s in Arkansas, or anywhere else, you better be up for one heck of a fight.
Next up was Lanny Davis, former Special Counsel to the Clinton White House. Wallace’s tone changed from chummy to combative. He was so combative, I’m not sure Davis was allowed to finish a single answer.
However, I think Davis handled it all beautifully.
Watch the two segments below, from today’s Fox News Sunday and get a load of how “objective host” Wallace worked as a Republican helpmate.
Oh, and in case that’s not enough, check out the viewer question that just happened to be chosen for the panel this week: “Why does she, Clinton, think that the rules we live by don’t apply to her? Why couldn’t she use the government’s e-mail address? What didn’t she want the public to see?”
(All quotations above, including the viewer question, are from Fox News’ transcript)
Simply put, there was NO requirement that the Secretary of State use a government e-mail account for government business until AFTER Hillary left the position.
Hillary’s decision to “not follow the rules” was simply because there were NO RULES TO FOLLOW while she was Secretary of State.
(Then again, why wasn’t the Bush cabal held to the “rules we live by” standard by FoxNoise and its legion of sheeple? Oh. That’s right. IOKIYAR. And white. Colin Powell’s admitted he didn’t use a government e-mail while Condoleeza Rice did but I don’t see any criticism being directed Powell’s way by the FoxNoise kkkrew or its sheeple.)
