Beck Calls On Imaginary Grandparents To Attack The Census
Guest blogged by Democritus
Monday (6/7/10) was “What Would Your Grandparents Say?” Day on the Glenn Beck program as Beck asked himself - and answered for himself - the same question in relation to a number of topics in the news. First off, Beck used his imaginary grandparent(s) to attack one of his favorite targets, the U.S. Census.

Fox News Fear Mongering Has Whipped Up Paranoia And Hysteria Over 2010 Census
Josh at Right Wing Watch put together a video compilation of fear mongering over the 2010 Census, featuring a hefty dose from Fox News. Josh writes:
There are many unanswered questions about the tragic hanging death of Bill Sparkman, a US Census Bureau employee, in rural Kentucky. But one thing is clear. Right-Wing leaders like Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and media outlets like Fox News have whipped up hysteria and paranoia over the 2010 Census.Continue reading >>

Fox Nation: Obama's Census Castrates Caucasians
Is Fox News trying to start a race war? Is it so desperate to undermine the counting of (Democratic voting) minorities that it's willing to do or say anything? The answer seems to be YES, judging from one of the latest entries on Fox Nation, the website that boasts about its devotion to tolerance, civil discourse and fair and balanced reporting. It's an "Op Ed" by a less than credible author, Dr. Paul L. Williams, with the shrieking title, Obama's Census Castrates Caucasians.

Megyn Kelly And Michele Bachmann Play The Fear Of ACORN, Fear Of Census Cards
In right wing Republican circles, there is a fear and loathing of ACORN (scary black people!). ACORN will be involved in the upcoming census which the hard right is also not happy about. As the mouthpiece for these folks, Fox News does its best to spread and reinforce this fear and loathing. In interviewing US Rep Michele Bachmann, Fox’s Megyn Kelly provided a platform which was a two-fer in that it provided the requiste ACORN bashing and fear of the census which is the basis for a strange speculation (conspiracy) of Bachmann’s relating to the possible use of census data. Cue the black helicopters!

Glenn Beck, the guy who gets weepy just thinking about how much he loves his country (at theatrically convenient moments) said on his show yesterday (6/25/09) he has considered not filling out the 2010 Census. And what is this "patriot's" concern about that? Not the fact that he's breaking the law, not the fact that he'd be undermining how Congressional districts are distributed to states, the allocation of more than $300 billion in federal funds, or the data that's used to plan for disasters and emergency services. Beck didn't even seem to care a fig about the fact that the Census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. No, his only concern was that he might lose his permit to have a gun. He was joined in such law-breaking thoughts by Rep. Michele "let's investigate Congress for anti-Americanism" Bachmann. With video.
