Sean Hannity supported (white) rancher Cliven Bundy’s armed threats against law enforcers. Yet Hannity has nothing scorn for African American protesters in Baltimore.
Remember when Hannity and Fox News presented Bundy as a victim and suggested that his violent threats against law enforcers were justified?
You talked about a range war with the federal government. There’s a lot of people out there - now that they’re taking your cattle - that are fearful that this is another Waco situation. Ruby Ridge has come up in some articles. What do you mean “range war?” How far are you willing to take this? (4/9/14)
I would assume as Cliven’s son, you want to protect your Dad. What are your plans if in fact (federal agents) come late in the night? …Do you worry that in fact they may kill either your Dad or somebody in your family? (4/15/14)
(T)hey may want to make an example out of you. I would hate to see that happen. …Are you worried about what the federal government’s capable of doing from this point forward? (4/16/14)
Apparently, only white people can threaten law enforcers in Hannity’s world.
On Monday night, Hannity interviewed Baltimore protester Adam Jackson, CEO of Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle. But clearly, Hannity was only interested in berating Jackson, not listening to anything he had to say.
Every one of Hannity’s questions was voiced with derision. Every one of Jackson’s answers was interrupted.
HANNITY: You’re watching what’s going on here. You’ve got a city that is burning. You’ve got police officers being attacked. You’ve got looting going on in the City of Baltimore. Is this the type of protest you want to be a part of?
JACKSON: …This is a response to the violence of the Baltimore City Police Department. People talking about fires burning in Baltimore, there’s been fires burning of mass incarceration, racist policing practices, so this is an outgrowth of that.”
Later, Hannity didn’t hide his condescension as he asked, “Isn’t the police department a minority majority-run police department? Isn’t this (a) minority-run city in terms of its politics?"
Translation: Why isn’t that enough blackitude for you?
Finally, as Hannity asked disapprovingly, “Whatever your grievance is… is this the answer, the burning and looting and robbing of your city, sir?”
Adams snapped, “You’re not concerned about the welfare of the poor or black people! You’re talking about property destruction!”
Later, Adams said, “I do not think that violence is an effective strategy for justice. But I will not moralize on black people. People like you, Sean? When 9/11 happened, the United States government invaded Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Rather than answer that excellent point, Hannity ended the interview.
