No matter how much of a neutral camouflage O’Reilly has tried to cloak himself in, there was no disguising his open eagerness at what he saw as a glimmer of impeachment or resignation hope at the end of the endless Benghazi/IRS tunnel.
In his Talking Points last night, O’Reilly couldn’t seem to find enough comparisons between Benghazi/IRS and Watergate. Even though, as Fox’s own George Will explained on Fox News Sunday recently, Nixon resigned after the Watergate tapes were released and “showed a president at the heart of the crime wave, suborning perjury and raising hash money and all the rest.”
Not even O’Reilly could come up with anything close to that to suggest about President Obama. But hope springs eternal in the No Spin Zone, apparently. O’Reilly said:
What we don’t know is that President Obama was directly involved and that will be tough to nail down.
…The key question right now is: did President Obama himself actually come up with the false narrative? And no committee is ever going to get that defined unless a guy like John Dean steps forward. Dean was White House counsel to Nixon and his testimony took the President down.
So the congressional committee will uncover some facts, but unless a White House insider comes forward, the President will not likely be affected.
There is a second scandal surrounding Benghazi and that is that some in Congress don’t want to know the truth. Just like Vice President Gerald Ford during Watergate, they are in denial.
…Now, as far as the IRS scandal is concerned, the one woman who could break the case, Lois Lerner has been held in contempt of Congress as you know. If a federal grand jury is convened, Ms. Lerner could be charged with a crime and that is the only way, the only way she might tell the world what happened - if she can make some kind of deal. Just one man will make that decision—the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, Ronald Machen. It’s up to him alone to call for a grand jury. Mr. Machen works for Attorney General Eric Holder and was appointed by President Obama. So “Talking Points” does not expect Ms. Lerner to face a criminal proceeding.
Did the White House actually order the IRS to target conservative groups? The President denied it to me on Super Bowl Sunday and again we are not likely to get to the bottom of this because our system is flawed. You can’t make Lerner talk. For political reasons and, you know, it’s flawed.
So does O’Reilly want to waterboard Lerner to make her talk? Or maybe he thinks we should just skip any further inquiry and go straight to the sentencing and, of course, impeachment. Because implicit in just about every word of O’Reilly’s Talking Points Memo was a suggested assumption of guilt, with the only question being a matter of proving it.
On top of that, notice how “no spin” O’Reilly said nothing about wanting to make sure a tragedy like Benghazi never happens again, nothing about what role, if any, cutting the State Department’s security budget (as House Republicans did) played in making the Benghazi compound vulnerable nor even what the CIA was doing in there.
No, the only thing O’Reilly – like his Republican BFFs – cares about in this tragedy is thinking about how it might hurt the Obama administration and/or Hillary Clinton.
Watch O'Reilly salivate for impeachment or resignation in the video below.
Now these guys had a slight advantage over FNC and the GOP. The advantage was that Nixon really did commit a crime. More than one.
There have been a bunch of committees already and they found no evidence of crime. So chances are there has been no crime.
Cuz you don’t like him is not a valid reason for impeachment, silly Billy. But you know that, don’t you?
I would address journalism at FNC but they don’t do investigative stuff and journalism.
The desperation doesn’t reek, it is fetid. Anything for a paycheck. Even O’Loofah knows none of what he says is true, but his aged audience can’t see it, even those that are asleep in front of their TV’s when his show is on.
Repub whistleblower – traitor
Dem whistleblower – true patriot
Billy is not well. Ever since his ex-wife left him, and Bey turned down his invitations to be on his show, Billy has become a bitter old man.
No one wants to be near Billy. His own colleagues can’t stand him, and he knows it. The suits at the Second Floor get migraines dealing with his whining and temper tantrums. His only friend is Intern Jesse.
If anyone needs to be thrown out it’s Billy. He is too old to attract younger 25-54 demographics. He can easily be replaced with a younger host who can bring in younger viewers, and attract more advertisers.
The Fox “News” suits need to let his contract expire, and send him away. He can entertain his peers at the retirement homes on Long Island.
