Fox’s Peter Johnson, Jr. ‘Devastated’ Obama Called For Restraint And Caution In Wake Of Boston Bombings
Fox’s Tucker Carlson and Roger Ailes mouthpiece attorney Peter Johnson, Jr. didn’t just attack President Obama for urging Americans “not to rush to judgment” in the wake of the Boston bombings. The two chickenhawks suggested it’s downright unpatriotic not to immediately ratchet up suspicions against Muslims nor immediately call for the death penalty against bomb suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.Read more
News Corporation chief Rupert Murdoch took to the Twitter-sphere today to tweet out a dubious defense of his New York Post's false identification of the Boston bombing suspects. After receiving criticism for having published a photo of a high school track runner as the bomb suspect, Murdoch claimed that the information had come from the FBI. OK, fine. But then Murdoch made the ridiculous claim that once the FBI "changed direction," the pics were "instantly withdrawn." But as many of the retweeters pointed out, there's no way to "instantly withdraw" thousands of papers in print. (H/T Eric J.)Read more
Neil Cavuto's Anti-Muslim "Terror Expert" Guest, Brigitte Gabriel, Says Boston Bombing Suspects Part Of International Jihad Movement
Fox News is described, in the Center for American Progress' Report, "Fear Inc.," as an "echo chamber" for Islamophobia with its array of guests whose anti-Islamic talking points promote a negative image of Islam which, in turn, promotes fear and hatred of Islam and Muslims. Also mentioned in the report, as part of Islamophobic grass roots organizations, is Brigitte Gabriel, a Fox fave and alleged "expert" on terror, who is the founder of "ACT! for America," a group that seeks to “inform, educate, and mobilize Americans regarding the multiple threats of radical Islam." The SPLC reports that she is "prone to sweeping generalizations and exaggerations as she describes a grand, sophisticated Muslim conspiracy bent on world domination." So it's not surprising that she believes the alleged Boston bombers are part of the conspiracy. And it's not surprising that Fox News gave her a platform from which to espouse her generalizations, yesterday, on Neil Cavuto's show.Read more
It’s still not known what drove the Tsarnaev brothers to cause the death and destruction they allegedly wreaked in Boston, but that isn’t stopping Fox News from all but declaring them jihadists. This morning, as part of the effort to amp up the fear and hate, Fox’s Brian Kilmeade suggested Bombing Suspect #1’s wife must have known something she’s not telling. Why? Because her husband, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, suddenly turned devout and he had been arrested for domestic violence in 2009. Also because she converted to Islam from Christianity.Read more
Didn't you just know it was only a matter of time until Fox News started blaming President Obama for the Boston bombings? On Fox Nation right now, there's a post called, "Telegraph: Boston Bombs: Obama Lulled America Into False Confidence Over Terror Threat."Read more
Developing. Fox News is reporting that "Suspect #2" is now in custody.
Hannity's Secret Sources Validate Newest Bogus Boston Bombing Conspiracy: Deportation Of Saudi Witness (That Isn't Happening!)
For the newest, hottest wingnut conspiracies, one need look no further than Fox News' discredited "security expert" Steve Emerson, whose Islamophobia and paranoia about Muslims dovetails nicely with that of Roger Ailes. As part of its Islamophobic "fair & balanced" news coverage, Fox is always willing to provide face time for whatever bogus and bigoted crap peddled by Emerson who is described as a "misinformation expert" in the report on American Islamophobia, "Fear Inc.," from the Center for American Progress. After the Boston bombing, it didn't take long for the usual suspects in the right wing crazy conspiracy network to find out that the Saudi student who was investigated and cleared is now being deported because - wait for it - Pres. Obama is trying to cover up "Saudi link to Boston bombings." And that was enough to roust Emerson from his bat cave (true story) to discuss this with Hannity whose secret sources confirm it. Problem is - it's all bullshit.Read more
By her own admission, Fox's Judith Miller admits that information is still sketchy about the background of the Boston bombing suspects. But that didn't stop her from writing a column called, "A desire to be part of an 'epic struggle' -- a new profile of jihadis," that's pure speculation that the brothers are jihadists. And then Miller speculates about what they are like, after assuming that they are jihadists.
From the New York Times: One Boston Bombing Suspect Is Dead, Second at Large; Area on Lockdown
BOSTON — One of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings was killed early Friday morning after leading the police on a wild chase following the fatal shooting of a campus police officer, while the other was sought in a massive manhunt that shut down large parts of the area. Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts said residents of Boston and its neighboring communities should “stay indoors, with their doors locked.”
