Geraldo Rivera Still Blaming Trayvon Martin For His Own Death
Geraldo Rivera visited Fox & Friends this morning where he once again demonstrated his version of promoting race relations, this time by continuing to blame Trayvon Martin for his own death, saying, "You dress like a thug, people are going to treat you like a thug." Rivera also again suggested that President Obama’s pandering to the black community brought about the wrongful prosecution of George Zimmerman – once again presented as the real victim in this tragedy.

Brad Saft's comment that the "true meaning" of July 4th is really "a religious holiday" was not just ridiculous and unfounded, it made him the clear winner of last week's Outrageous Quote Of The Week poll. I'd say Saft's distinction is well deserved, wouldn't you?

Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace followed in the footsteps of colleague Geraldo Rivera by using the George Zimmerman case to suggest that President Obama’s racial prejudice on behalf of black people was the only reason Zimmerman was ever charged in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in the first place. Republican guest Steve King of Iowa was right there on the same page, ready to expand on the smear. What a coincidence!

For many people, faith plays an important role in their response to crises. But their spiritual responses vary according to their faith traditions which have different ways of coping with stress. But you won't hear about that on Fox News which is the one true media outlet for the Catholic Church - a church that, according to Roger Ailes, needs defending. Last Sunday, Fox's one true priest, Fr. Jonathan Morris, who is leaving his cushy gig at Old St. Patrick's Cathedral for another cushy gig at Columbia U where he will "broaden his ministry," used the San Francisco plane crash to push the power of prayer which he plugged after the Newtown tragedy. (Adam Lanza needed god). And as he did with his heartwarming anecdote about crashing airport security for a good cause, he provided another personal story which, just coincidentally, fit with the meme that even godless people turn to "God" when they're scared. Tucker Carlson, a paragon of deep spirituality, was very impressed and wasn't afraid to make a joyful noise!

While Sean Hannity was probably partying with George Zimmerman after he was acquitted last night, Geraldo Rivera was on the streets, showboating over the verdict and pretending to be sympathetic to both sides. But even a blind man could have easily spotted Rivera’s true colors. Because he didn’t just cheer the verdict and do a little race baiting, he used the verdict to attack President Obama and suggest his “racial politics” were to blame for bringing the supposedly bogus charges against poor, persecuted Zimmerman.

Fox News contributor Erick Erickson has a message for liberals upset over the Texas legislature passing the controversial abortion law that was successfully filibustered just a few weeks ago: Go get a coat hanger. Actually, he didn’t say that, he “merely” tweeted a link to a website with a big sale on coat hangers and wrote, “Dear Liberals, go bookmark this site now:” Apparently, Erickson doesn’t care if a liberal fetus is aborted, it just shouldn’t be done safely and legally.

Apparently, The O’Reilly Factor is not to be undone in the “we’ll race bait anything in the George Zimmerman trial” department. Just one day after the Hannity show used Rev. Al Sharpton’s calls for peace and calm in Florida to race bait against him and other African Americans, substitute O'Reilly host Laura Ingraham did the same thing last night when she sneered at a tweet from Jesse Jackson urging calm. Only on Fox News would calls for restraint be used to racially hate monger.

Sean Hannity hosted a special “studio audience” show about the Zimmerman trial tonight and it wasn’t as unfair, biased and race-baiting as you’d expect. That is until smack dab in the middle, he interrupted the discussion for a little one-on-one pearl clutching over racial divisiveness with Ann Coulter. Yes, Ann Coulter. The queen of mean and Fox News’ Master Baiter Of Race had a sad about how racial tensions have been inflamed over the trial. Or at least that's what they'd like you to think.

When the Obama administration brought out an online video, "The Life of Julia," the rabid, anti-government right had a collective freak-out. They claimed that the woman in the video was being supported, "cradle to grave," by evil, socialist government when, in fact, "Julia" was a self-reliant woman who was able to be self-reliant thanks to a number of policies enacted by the Obama administration. As expected, Fox News picked up the meme with Eric Bolling claiming that it was "unadulterated communism and Marxism." On this morning's Fox & Friends, Gretchen Carlson lied about "Julia" in a discussion, with Rachel Campos-Duffy, about an organization that promotes economic empowerment for Hispanic women. The very right wing Campos-Duffy is married to GOP teabagging Congressman Sean Duffy who, in 2011, complained about his $174,000 yearly salary which, of course, is courtesy of you and me. And the fictional "Julia" was a "taker?"

This morning on Fox & Friends, Geraldo Rivera didn’t just think Zimmerman should be acquitted, he gave his personal stamp of approval on the shooting death of “hoodie-wearing” Trayvon Martin by saying that each member of the jury “would have shot and killed” him “a lot sooner than George Zimmerman did.” (h/t Think Progress)
