Fox News Mailbag - 4/7/13 Edition
The News Hounds' mailbox has been deluged with mail for Fox News. So much so that I can barely keep up with posting them. But it's one of my favorite features at News Hounds. Since I don't have the time (or inclination) to respond to all of them and let them know they've reached the wrong party, I consider this a public service. So, attention, Fox News: you've got mail! PS, Fox viewers don't seem so pleased with Shepard Smith these days.

Sure as the tides go in, the tides go out, Bill O'Reilly can be reliably counted upon to articulate the talking points of the anti-abortion movement. But in his Thursday night's "Talking Points" segment, in addition to staying with the standard anti-abortion script, he also, as Sen. Al Franken used to say, pulled a fact straight of his ass. Moving on and eliminating the image of O'Reilly's posterior. After getting some right wing blowback about his "thump the bible" comments, O'Reilly used his "no spin zone" to do some fancy, rhetorical spinning about how he wasn't really being pejorative to a major American religious group who are, presumably, big Fox fans. In the process, he tried to advise them with his view of what constitutes good argument on two "intense issues" in the culture war, abortion and gay marriage, which traditionalists see as destructive. And like any of O'Reilly's arguments regarding abortion, it vividly illustrated his contempt for women who just don't understand that if they have an abortion, they're going to hell!
Read moreShocker! Hannity Misled About Condom Study
Earlier this week (4/4/13), Sean Hannity sneered about a research project funded with stimulus money "on how to use condoms correctly" that "surprisingly, created zero jobs.” Unfortunately for Hannity, a senior scientist on the project has corrected the record - and he doesn't look too good as a result.

It is a sad reality that gay youth have been and continue to be the victims of homophobic bulling. In 2011, after a gay teen committed suicide, Fox News "virtually ignored" this tragedy while other non "fair & balanced" network devoted attention to it. Around the same period, Fox ran many pieces that were critical of anti-bullying and diversity programs in public schools - programs that the religious right, Fox's fan base, believe foster the "gay agenda." In defending a student, whose biblically based anti-gay article in the student newspaper was criticized by the school administration as a form of bullying, alleged news host Megyn Kelly suggested that anti-bullying programs are violations of free speech. Flash forward to 2013 when a conservative high school student teabagger, the new young darling of the right wing, claims that he's being bullied by liberal Wisconsin teachers and Megyn Kelly's views on free speech seem to have changed!
Read moreGOP Civil War: AFA Attacks 'Windbag' Bill O'Reilly
It looks like Bill O'Reilly's "thump the Bible" comments are continuing to alienate conservatives. Latest case in point: Bryan Fischer, of the American Family Association. He called O'Reilly a "pompous, arrogant windbag" for having said that opponents of gay marriage have not made a compelling case and need to more than "thump the Bible."
Read moreHannity And Bolling Love Coach Mike Rice's Abusive Behavior At Rutgers
Fox News' Eric Bolling and Sean Hannity seem to be competing for who can slobber more over the abusive tactics of now-fired Rutgers basketball coach, Mike Rice. As you probably know, Rice was fired after a video of him pushing and throwing balls at his players went viral. He also shouted homophobic slurs. But to Bolling and Hannity, Rice's tactics are just what we need to fight the "wussification" of America.

Bill O'Reilly's producer Jesse Watters found yet another excuse to go to the beach and film young ladies in bikinis – and call it a Factor investigation. This time, he visited college students on spring break in order to “investigate” liberal indoctrination on college campuses. That’s right, no curricula examination, no interviews with professors or college administrators. Just the kids. In bikinis. He hit bonus paydirt when he was able to work a little Islamophobia into the mix.

Aggrieved Christians, especially those on Fox, claim that the librul education, media, and arts community attack Christians because they, unlike those evil Muslims, are peaceful people who won't fight back. But their contention that Christians gracefully accept whatever is thrown at them is a crock of crap as shown by their reaction to yet another Fox fueled "outrage" over a Florida university professor's request that students "stomp on Jesus" as part of a lesson on symbols. While the controversy began on right wing blogs, "fair & balanced" Fox News gave it national attention. Not surprisingly, it was the topic for discussion on Fox & Friends, the Fox sanctuary for persecuted Christians. Fox's culture war ayatollah, Bill O'Reilly, covered the "controversy." During all the segments, a photo of the teacher, who is black, was shown. And now that the Deandre Poole has received racist comments and death threats on his voice and e-mail, he has been put on leave because of safety concerns. Praise Jesus?
Read moreSean Hannity: Planned Parenthood, Pres. Obama Support Infanticide
Bill O'Reilly isn't the only Catholic, pro-life Fox "news" guy who uses his show to promote the lies and propaganda of those who seek to control women's bodies. While not as strident as O'Reilly, who used his show to vilify an abortion provider, Sean Hannity is fully on board with the anti-abortion crusade against Planned Parenthood. Last week, a Florida Planned Parenthood representative, during a hearing regarding protection for fetuses born during botched abortions, said that medical decisions should be between the mother and the doctor. That generated a right wing media frenzy during which right wing media outlets were "shitting all over themselves" to show that Planned Parenthood supports the murder of post-born children which is, of course, a lie. Bill O'Reilly advanced this narrative which includes the perfunctory anti-abortion lie that Pres. Obama supports infanticide. Sean Hannity was more than happy to do the same!
