Roger Ailes might be gone, but that doesn't mean Fox News has stopped pimping the tired lies and propaganda of those who seek to control women's bodies. On this morning's Fox & Friends, Tucker Carlson and his curvy couch wing men advanced Mike Pence's "pro-life" LIE that Hillary Clinton supports "partial-birth abortion."
This morning's follow up to last night's veep debate began with debate video which showed Mike Pence *lying about Hillary Clinton's support for so-called "partial birth abortion" (a non-medical term coined by the National Right to Life) Steve Doocy noted that "both candidates are known for their strong Catholic backgrounds" and asked "who's more in line with what America thinks." He then introduced fellow anti-choice Fox friend and editor-in-chief of the rabidly right wing Daily Caller, Tucker Carlson. The banner framed the VERY IMPORTANT FOX/PRO-LIFE MESSAGE: "Faith vs Politics, Pence Challenges Extreme View of Abortion." (Fox has defined, as FOX FACT, the Democratic position on abortion as "extreme."
Carlson opined that Mike Pence won the debate and that "the most remarkable moment for me was the abortion moment because, keep in mind, Pence was not asked about abortion, he was asked more broadly about his religious faith." He gave Pence credit for bringing up the topic because Republicans are reluctant to do so because they think it will damage them. (Ya think!)
As the banner reinforced the "pro-life" agitprop: "A Moral Issue, Pence Challenges Partial-Birth Abortion," Carlson continued the "pro-life" propaganda with his assertion that these Republicans "are wrong because partial birth abortion, the country is split on abortion, it is not split on late term or third trimester abortion." (In citing his data, Carlson didn't mention that 59% of Americans support late term abortions if the fetus is infected with Zika.)
Carlson claimed that Clinton's and the Democratic position is "way out of the mainstream" on abortion and that Pence "wins by saying this." Fact Check - From the Democratic Platform - "The Democratic position is that that every woman should have access to quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion—regardless of where she lives, how much money she makes, or how she is insured" - hardly "way out" there. In fact, the majority of Americans support legal abortion in all or most cases.
Anti-Choice Steve Doocy praised Pence for his "accuracy" in describing "an almost born baby." Doocy: "That's what you're talking about, right there." Carlson: "Exactly" The banner was straight out of the anti-choice playbook which sees adoption as solution to unwanted pregnancies: "Alternatives to Abortion, in Indiana, Pence Encouraged Adoptions." Carlson accused Kaine of having a "ludicrous" position in saying that he is personally pro-life "but I'm for unlimited access to abortion, taxpayer funded abortion." FACT CHECK: TUCKER LIED - Kaine supports the Hyde Amendment which prohibits taxpayer funding for abortion, so he's neither for "unlimited access" nor access to "taxpayer funding for abortion." He doesn't support imposing his religious views, as Tucker and his anti-choice pals would, on those who don't believe as he does.
*The claim that Hillary Clinton supports late term abortions is a big fat lie and was rated "false" by Politifact. Clinton does, however, feel that late term abortions could be justified in cases of rape, incest, and the health and life of the mother - obviously not a big deal for Tucker and his men friends. She voted against the 2003 partial-birth abortion ban (which passed and was upheld by SCOTUS) because it had no exceptions for the health and life of the mother; but she has never said that she supports unrestricted so-called "partial birth abortion." In other words, Pence and his Fox friends are full of you know what.
But don't ya love it when Fox News uterus-free guys say that they know what's best for our lady parts!
