As an "echo chamber" for American Islamophobia, Fox News never wastes an opportunity to bash Islam and Muslims. This morning, Koch tool and Fox friend Pete Hegseth advanced Fox's trademark fear and loathing of Islam by attacking the Minnesota Somali Muslim community.
As part of its mission to divide America, Fox has obviously tasked right wing military veteran Pete Hegseth with the job of instructing Fox's real (white, Christian) audience that unlike other ethnic groups of the past (white, Christian), Muslims just can't assimilate in real America.
Earlier this year, Fox & Friends featured his scary "documentaries," about Muslims who, according to Hegseth, aren't assimilating in Hamtramck Michigan, a majority Muslim city. The videos provided fodder for the nice white, Christian Fox friends to whine about how scary Muslims are just not assimilating. This morning, Hegseth was back on the curvy couch in order to trash the Somali Muslim community in Minnesota who - you guessed it - aren't assimilating to Fox's degree of satisfaction!
Using the Saturday evening St. Cloud Minnesota mall stabbing as a launch point for the Islamophobic attack, Steve Doocy, almost histrionically, reported that ISIS has taken credit for the attack. In case you weren't scared yet, the banner boldly proclaimed, as FOX FACT, that this was a terror attack which was perpetrated by a Muslim: "Terror at the Mall, Suspect Shouting "Allah" Stabs 9 in Minnesota." Ainsely Earhardt informed us that the suspect was a Somali immigrant and that, OMG, he was "shouting Allah" and asking his victims if they were Muslim. She asked, "Is the Somali refugee crisis now a TERROR crisis?"
After he introduced Hegseth, a MN resident "who has done stories on this before", Brian Kilmeade said, "Sadly, Pete, this does not surprise you." Hegseth immediately introduced the non-assimilation meme when he responded that it didn't surprise him because "a lot of" Somali communities "have not assimilated the way we would want them to." He alleged that "there is an incubation, there are some radical mosques, some radical teachings." The banner reinforced the scary Musliam terror: "Terror Targets, Attacker Asked Victims If They Were Muslims."
After citing a US Attorney's comment that MN Somalis are "in denial" about the threat of terror in their community, Hegseth asserted "that the problem is the ideology looks to be ISIS inspired." (According to the Minnesota Star Tribune - "A news agency said to speak for ISIL went to Twitter to claim credit for the mall violence") After playing video of the MN governor promoting tolerance, Doocy smirked as he asked Hegseth, "what's your message to him." Hegseth shouted his message: "If you can't control this problem, we need a new governor." He brayed about how Minnesota residents need to know if they are safe.
Working in the requisite right wing talking points, he attacked Hillary Clinton, Pres. Obama, and Angela Merkel for wanting to open up borders to those who don't want to "invest in our culture." He reinforced the propaganda: "There's a real problem here in Minnesota with that assimilation." He demanded "more from the Somali Muslim population in calling out the radicals...and leaders here saying, 'we've got a problem here, we've got to confront it'." Kilmeade, "you want to be tolerant and welcoming, you don't want to get stabbed..."
WHAT HEGSETH DIDN'T SAY - The FBI has stated that “We don’t know if the suspect was in contact with or inspired by foreign terrorist organizations." The police chief said "he was unable to confirm if the mall stabbings were anything more than a lone attack." (what the right wing and Fox News say when there is violence against abortion clinics) Also, "Minnesota's Somali leaders condemn stabbing as report identifies suspect" (reported yesterday). Oh, and St. Cloud non-Muslims aren't exactly tolerant and welcoming to the Somalis!
Once again we see that Fox is "the place where you can bash Islam with impunity." Somewhere, Roger Ailes is smiling!
Faux sounds pretty small town to me. And that ain’t necessarily a good thing.
