The North Carolina anti-LGBT law is a total affront to the LGBT community. So who better to misrepresent and defend it than proud heterosexual, Christian gay basher and white privilege poster boy Tucker Carlson - a guy who actually believes that transgender bathroom accommodations are "a war on biology."
While the North Carolina law is really all about stripping the LGBT community of a vast array of civil rights it is being framed, particularly by the Christian right, as a "bathroom bill." As such, it feeds the "bathroom hysteria" surrounding other ordinances which allow trans folks to use the bathroom of their gender identity - a hysteria fed by Fox News. (Bill O'Reilly even projected his own sick, sexual fantasies onto the issue!) And now that entertainers, like Bruce Springsteen, are boycotting the state, Fox has the perfect platform for its patented anti-LGBT and anti-liberal Hollywood/entertainment memes.
Sunday, on Fox & Friends, Carlson, who also believes that transgender folks are "perverse" and "unhealthy," reported that Springsteen cancelled a North Carolina concert because "he's mad over a law there that prevents men from going into ladies rooms and vice -versa." (Note his use of "men" rather than transgender women). Carlson said that critics of the law say it is "an intolerant attack on the LGBT community and he says he's on the side of people who feel that way."
Clayton Morris read part of Springsteen's eloquent statement which can found, in full, here. After stating "wow, that's a big decision," Juliet Huddy informed us that North Carolina GOP congressman Mark Walker (A radical right-wing Baptist minister who questions the existence of a minimum wage, thinks that African-Americans on public assistance have no pride, and who would force women to bear the children of their rapists) thinks that "radical" leftist Springsteen is being a bully. (And discriminatory laws aren't bullying?) Clayton Morris added that Walker will "open with open arms" those entertainers, such as Justin Bieber and Def Leppard, who haven't cancelled their upcoming concerts.
Carlson, who - wait for it - actually wants SNL to make fun of transgender bathrooms, provided us with his oh, so informed and tolerant opinion: "So, great Bruce Springsteen joins a long list of rich people who get to feel morally superior by jumping up and down and pretending that they're part of a new civil rights movement. Here's my question, though, do transgendered bathrooms and the religion of global warming, these are the big issues for affluent liberals. Do they do anything to make the average person's life any better? I mean how out of touch is this party?"
Carlson seems to be concerned about making the "average person's" life better. So does he know that North Carolina HB-2 prevents localities from raising the state's minimum wage ($7.25 - presumably lower than what Carlson rakes in.) If Christians were being discriminated against, one assumes that Carlson would support their right to sue in state court. But good, old HB-2 takes away the right of anybody who alleges discrimination to sue in state court. Those folks must now take their cases to federal court "where access is more difficult." And of course, when we're talking about global warming, we are talking about "average" lives which are greatly impacted due to to climate change.
But yeah, advocating for civil rights is "out of touch." MLK must be rolling in his grave!
