Do you honestly think that if a Muslim bank teller used an Islamic greeting with customers or pushed Islam on them in such a way that complaints were filed, Fox News would be supportive? Not only would Fox feature this on all its programs as an example of creeping Sharia; but the name and photo of the offender would be plastered all over the place so that the Fox audience would know to whom to send the death threats. But when a Christian bank teller was allegedly fired for saying "have a blessed day," along with a little alleged Christian proselytizing, Fox News was there to provide warm validation for this poor, persecuted Christian who is just another victim of political correctness which, as Fox informs us, discriminates against Christians. Meanwhile the non-politically correct Fox has no compunctions about insulting non-Christians. Oh, well...
Sunday, after setting up the "PC Police" segment with the loud siren and police visuals, Ann Kooiman asked if "the PC Police have gone too far, this time?" She reported that a former bank teller claims that she was fired for telling customers to "have a blessed day" and now "she's fighting back" with a lawsuit against the bank. Kooiman summarized the situation and added that she and her Southern friends say "have a blessed day" all the time. The chyron quipped "Blessing or curse, Neace: fired for saying 'have a blessed day." Polly Neace then expanded on her sad story about how she has been saying this for two years and nobody complained about her saying this until now.
Kooiman read a statement from the bank which Neace's attorney took issue with. While he spoke, the chyron framed the Fox message "Framed for caring, US bank, lawsuit without merit" and "Politically incorrect, US bank, Neace violated ethics code." Kooiman did mention the bank's claim that Neace had asked customers about their relationship with God and asked a customer not to take the lord's name in vain. The attorney dismissed this is nonsense.
Kooiman provided the requisite validation: "It does seem that there are worse things that a bank teller could say to someone than have a blessed day." More Fox messaging with the chyron claim as Fox Fact: "Fired over faith, teller told customers 'have a blessed day'."
Funny, a local Fox affiliate's legal analyst thinks that "Where you actually go and take a step further and actually perhaps try to convert or persuade someone to your religious beliefs, that's where an employer can step in and take action." But as that cuts into the Fox persecuted narrative, it wasn't mentioned.
Once again we are reminded that, as Jon Stewart so wisely said, "conservative victimization is the true genius of what Fox News had accomplished."
