As a proponent of traditional Catholic values, the divorced Bill O'Reilly believes that same sex marriage is part of a vast, left wing effort to destroy America as he knows it. (White, Christian, male dominated) Back in 2009, he ranted about how same sex marriage will lead to recognition of interspecies marriage, legalized polygamy, and demands for polyamorous marriage. That, of course, hasn't happened; but Bill took credit for his prognostication coming true during a discussion, with his boyz Greg Gutfeld and Bernard McGuirk, about a poly family featured on the NBC website. A quick reality check shows that "One, Big, Happy Family" wasn't an advocacy piece for poly marriage - but, hey, Bill has a message to spin and he's sticking to it, reality be damned.
Thursday night, Bill began his "back of the book" segment by explaining poly families and describing a poly family who live, amazingly, in deep red Georgia. Their story was first featured on the CNN website and has now been picked up by the NBC website. As explained in the CNN article, "many [poly families] aren't looking for multi-partner marriage, anyway, they just want to feel free to have relationships currently outside the norm without being judged as freaks or outcasts." After playing some of the NBC video, Bill needed to applaud himself and frame his narrative so he pompously proclaimed that "you might remember that I predicted this would happen in the beginning of the inclusive marriage movement."
Bill O'Reilly Bullshit Alert - While O'Reilly says that this is something new, it goes back to the 1840's when, "under the leadership of a charismatic Christian minister named John Noyes, the Oneida commune in upstate New York conducted an experiment in promiscuity known as complex marriage." Throughout the years, writers and political activists were involved in such arrangements. The San Francisco Kerista Commune "rotated sleeping arrangments." So it's nothing new.
With tongue firmly planted in cheek, O'Reilly claimed that his reminder of his power of prognostication was not said "with any derision, so you left wing websites, sitting out there in the weeds." He continued to bloviate: "It's a logical progression when you want to include everyone under the banner of matrimony, that you're gonna have this kind of stuff. (Uh, no, it's not a logical progression and moreover, these people are not seeking marriage rights.) Child psychologist Bill (not) opined that "it's not healthy for the kids" (Like Bill and Maureen's messy divorce?)
Fox News resident joker comedian Greg Gutfeld, not exactly Channing Tatum, quipped that "is that all the adults are unattractive." He agreed with O'Reilly's ludicrous "slippery slope argument. He did a little comedy: "But I think it's beautiful, I think families come in all shapes. I live with four ferrets in a tree house. The state won't recognize the relationship. I consider us married...The serious point here is that the media has no ability to judge anything." Bill sarcastically interjected "nobody should judge anything." Gutfeld continued, "exactly, everything that is odd is considered normal and everything normal is considered odd." (WTF?)
The video doesn't show McGuirk's contribution: "I don't mean to be poly-phobic, but a liberal network like NBC should not have showcased the sketchiest looking people in the whole community. Having people who look like they just crawled out of dumpsters won't help the cause."
So not only does O'Reilly makes the absurd claim that legalizing same sex marriage will cause a surge in poly families; but he wants the mainstream media to view them with the same narrow, bigoted, moralistic condemnation that he does. O'Reilly might not look like he crawled out of a dumpster; but the stuff that comes out of his mouth is pure garbage!
And when it comes to "traditional" marriages, Bill isn't exactly a shining example...
Based on his own marital history, Billy is not in any position to talk about traditional marriage. He could talk about adultery.
And when you and your wife were separated, why did you object to her dating another man? The separation, by all accounts, was a pre-divorce step with NO chance of “reconciliation” and the law doesn’t have any problem with separated parties dating others (although if minor children are involved, the courts usually do frown on the mother—but not the father—sleeping around with other parties).
And when Newt Gingrich was having affairs during his marriages (yes, plural), wouldn’t that basically be “polyamory” as well? Or is it only “polyamory” when/if ALL parties involved consent to the activities? But shouldn’t that be something that “conservatives” should support? That the government does not get involved in the personal lives of its citizens?
