As the media echo chamber for the perpetually outraged radical right, Fox News never wastes an opportunity to advance their outrage du jour, the most recent being Jane Fonda's invitation to speak at the commencement for the UCLA School of Theater. Not surprisingly, Bill O'Reilly, as the voice of the boy-am-I-pissed-off conservative contingent attacked UCLA for inviting this "traitor." But he did commend her talent - something that the talentless famous "dick" Tucker Carlson couldn't bring himself to do on Saturday's Fox & Friends which, while starting off with Fonda, soon morphed into another popular radical right meme; i.e. that affirmative action in college admissions unfairly advantages African-Americans who are too stupid to get in on their own. As propaganda twofer - priceless
At the beginning of "The Trouble with Schools" segment, Anna Kooiman reported that veterans are "outraged" about Jane Fonda's upcoming commencement speech at the UCLA; but the dirty, commie hippies at the school are "silent." Tucker Carlson introduced their guest, Tim Groseclose who is actually - wait for it - a real, live conservative who teaches at UCLA and who is beloved by Fox because he supports Fox's favorite meme about liberal media bias.
Groseclose is no stranger to Fox & Friends where he assisted in their attack on Media Matters. In 2011, he urged Fox & Friends viewers to urge their member of congress to have congress have hearings on Media Matters tax status which, despite an onslaught of Fox propaganda, hasn't been revoked. On another appearance on the curvy couch he accused David Brock of threatening Fox employees. During other appearances he whined about how the evil, librul media isn't sufficiently critical of Islam.
Carlson asked about UCLA's reaction to Fonda's appearance as the chyron quipped " 'Hanoi Jane' Heads to UCLA, Fonda to Give Film Grads Commencement Speech." Carlson, who brings new meaning to the term irrelevant, described Fonda as a left wing activist from 40 years ago, "not relevant in film even at this point." As usual Tucker is full of shit. Fonda recently earned a prime time Emmy for her role in HBO's "The Newsroom." She played Nancy Reagan in "The Butler." This year she will be starring in a movie with Tina Fey. Next month, she will receive "America’s highest honor for a career in film, the AFI Life Achievement Award. He asked "what would be the point" in inviting her to speak. (Uh, because she has won all kinds of awards for her performances which make her very appropriate for the role of speaker at the UCLA theater school?) "
Groseclose said that his students have "no opinion" and don't even know who Fonda is. Kooiman read a quote from the Dean of the UCLA School of Theater who said that the school is honored to have her speak. Groseclose speculated that it was this Dean's idea to invite her. The chyron continued the "Hanoi Jane" message which might have been relevant 40 years ago: "Hosting Hanoi Jane, UCLA Dean Says School is Truly Honored."
Carlson segued over into another topic. After noting that discrimination is so wrong, the conversation shifted to Groseclose's "discovery" that UCLA is discriminating against Asians because African-Americans are "being given racial preference." He claimed that these African-Americans wouldn't be otherwise admitted and that he suspects that most of the UCLA faculty would say that "diversity is so important that we need to break the law." He accused the faculty of not only breaking the law but lying about it and "even Martin Luther King would say you shouldn't do that." Carlson, the poster child for white privilege worked in his requisite racist dog whistle: "If the numbers were reverse, Eric Holder would be on the scene right now with an investigation and federal marshalls."
Funny, Groseclose has been whining about how UCLA is engaging in illegal admitting practices since 2008. But considering how Fox never wastes an opportunity to play to the racist sentiments of its viewers who believe that those "takers" are milking the system, right wing outrage is always current. And funny - Fox cares about Asian-Americans being discriminated against? Guess not all discrimination is created equal!
But seriously, folks, Tucker Carlson, I repeat, Tucker Carlson says that Jane Fonda is irrelevant? hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
“Carlson is an over-privileged, irrelevant and worthless fTucker.”
Who probably hasn’t done any work for a living outside of INHERITING — this includes his LEGACY CONNECTIONS.
’Nuff said.
I’m gonna turn that logic on them here, just to teach them a lesson about where that actually applies. Jane Fonda, whether you love her or hate her, has at least been nominated for just about every award she’s been in a position to get. She’s still getting regular Awards and nominations for her TV work. She’s speaking to a graduating class of theatre and film students. Hate her politics all you want, she’s someone who’s extremely accomplished in her own career, and could provide a lot of advice in her speech.
fTucker Carlson, on the other hand… Will be remember for our constant reminders that the t is silent. And maybe a few feminists who use historical arguments will remember his “men are awesome because they embrace sexism!” rants. He’s not even a media equivalent of Fonda, he’s just a joke.
