We know what Fox News thinks about racial issues. As Newshounds Ellen pointed out, in a truly awesome article on Salon, "Fox News, however, seems determined to persuade America that civil rights have gone too far and even suggest that whites are the real racial victims now." So one wonders what MLK, if he had lived, would think about Fox News which is the mouthpiece for a political ideology that King was vehemently opposed to. Another interesting question would be how Fox News, if it had been around during the Civil Rights era, would have covered Dr. King - especially given that he was a champion of organized labor, a guaranteed annual income, and redistribution of wealth - not exactly issue that Fox News and its right wing audience would be in agreement with.
Despite how Fox and the right wing try to whitewash King's legacy, by claiming that his message was all about how whites and blacks should live in peace, the March on Washington was, in part, about economic inequality - not an issue for Fox which does its best to defend and preserve the white plutocracy. And while there have been great strides in Civil Rights, attempts are still being made to suppress the black vote - again, not an issue for Fox which is the mouthpiece for those who are doing the suppression. Interestingly, MLK's description of the Republican Party, at the 1964 Republican Convention, sounds just like Fox News: "The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism."
Bill O'Reilly thinks that MLK would be appalled by today's African-Americans. I think that MLK would be appalled by Fox News.
Anyway, today we honor all those who fought and died for "The Dream." As we see from watching Fox News, we still have a long way to go!
Enjoy the video (with commentary) of the wonderful Peter, Paul & Mary's performance of "Blowing in the Wind" at the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
And I repeat two points I made on previous articles:
1) Most of Fox News’ longtime heroes that were around for King applauded his death, and said he had it coming. Including St. Ronald Reagan. No way are they ever taking any side but the white man’s.
2) I want to know, even if he really does think like this, instead of just setting himself up to look like he does… why Roger Ailes is permissive of this sickness being both this blatant and in this quantity.
He would organize pickets at the News Corporation skyscraper, and target that buffoon Roger Ailes, that clown Bill Shine and the rest of the sorry vice presidents of this amateur “news” network.
MLK would call out Hannocchio the RINO’s racist behavior, and shame him in front of the masses. In response, this Long Island House Master would launch an attack on MLK, calling him anti-American and a race-baiter. To complete the character assassination of King, he would call on his black house servants, aka, Fox “News” contributors, to paint a dark character of him.
The Foxies and their ilk in talk radio (Rusty the Radio Clown, Groucho Marx impersonator, Actor Glenn Beck, Ms. Laura, Andrea Temper Tantrum, Big Mouth Conningham, Low-Ratings Kilmeade, etc.) internet (Mouthy Michelle, Spinster Annie, Tucky’s Daily B.S., Matt the Florida Rat, Not so Brightbart, World Nut Joseph, The Craze, Paranoid Pat the Doll, etc.), and the far-right mouthpieces (Nutty Nudge, Princess Sarah of Alaska, Pat “CCC” Buchanan, etc.) would launch a full assault to destroy King.
If King was alive today, these frauds would label him a “troublemaker.”
