The description of Mark Steyn, as "the most toxic right wing pundit you never heard of," is right on the mark (badaboom) considering Steyn's rabid Islamophobia which includes Steyn's exhortation, to non-Muslim women, to have more babies in order to score a demographic victory over the godless hordes. He spews his toxicity, some of it race based, on Fox, especially on the Hannity show where he is a frequent guest. Official Fox "news" even provided a defense of Steyn when a complaint was lodged, in Canada, about the anti-Islamic content of one his books. So it figures that he would be a fave with some of those on Fox's toxic "The Five." Last week, Dana Perino joined the chorus of conservatives who are urging Steyn, who frequently subs for Rush Limbaugh, to run for the US Senate. Problem is, however, that he can't run for the Senate because HE'S A CANADIAN CITIZEN. That Ms. Perino, who should know better, doesn't care just shows you the alternate reality of Fox News hosts.
This whole thing started with right winger Hugh Hewitt who presented Steyn with the plan when Steyn was a guest on Hewitt's radio show. Hewitt has even launched a petition which urges Steyn to run. So far, 3500 people have signed it. I don't know if Perino is one; but she informed her co-hosts about Hewitt's "great suggestion" that Steyn run against the current Democratic NH senator, Jeanne Shaheen. She noted that Steyn "hasn't shut the door." She referenced Hewitt's petition and urged viewers to go to the website. To Bob Beckel's comment that he's not an American citizen, Dana Perino responded, in a petulant voice, "you can run for Senate, Bob." When Bob reacted incredulously, she said "I believe so, if you're a resident. While Beckel said nah, Kimberley Guilfoyle, an attorney, said "yes."
Undaunted, Perino declared that she is "for Mark Steyn." Eric Bolling, who has trafficked in the Obama "birther" conspiracy, enthused about how Steyn is a "great guy."
Perino needs to read Article One, Section Three of the US Constitution which states that a US Senator must be a US Citizen for nine years. But Hugh Hewitt says that the 17th Amendment overrides it, so there you go."
I do think that we need to demand a copy of Steyn's green card because he could be an illegal alien. Right?
What more can I say...!!!
The thing with Steyn is that he not only won’t be able to run for the obvious reason, but that he wouldn’t have had a chance of winning even if he was eligible. He will continue in his career as a fill-in host for Rush Limbaugh, occupying the same position as people like the late Tony Snow, before Snow got a job with Fox News. But he’ll never be a Senator or anything else of public fame – and that’s probably a good thing for all concerned.
What makes this especially egregious is the fact that this asshat is currently teaching constitutional law at Chapman University. If he doesn’t know what the 17th Amendment says, he needs to be removed from his post. If Hewitt really understood how the Constitution works, he’d know that it IS possible to amend a PART of a Constitutional provision without amending the whole section (which is what the 17th did—it merely changed HOW Senators are elected; it did NOT change the requirements for election).
In other news, I don’t believe he’s renounced his Cuban citizenship. Hhmm?
What’s he trying to hide? Only a communist sympathizer would choose to give the finger to Canada while embracing Fidel’s Cuba!
Just saying
