During this week's hate fest, Fox directed most of its most of its toxic spew towards Islam and Muslims in general. But they reserved some venom for some very specific Muslims; i.e. the parents of the alleged Boston bombers and the wife of the deceased suspect. And in so doing, they were able to hit on another right wing bête noire; i.e. "welfare" - a word that elicits fear and loathing amongst the white, racist pitchfork crowd as it conjures up images of those dark skinned moochers, criminals, and Obama voters that Bill O'Reilly has warned us about. Once it was disclosed that the Tsarnaev family received some forms of welfare, alleged "news" anchor Megyn Kelly expressed her patented "outrage" over whether "we" paid for that bomb. But funny, when it was revealed that right wing darling, "Joe the Plumber" received welfare, Kelly was outraged about the leak of confidential information. "Fair & Balanced" or double standard?
In 2008, confidential information relating to the tax records, child support, and confidential welfare records of McCain/Palin supporter "Joe the Plumber" was disclosed. Bill O'Reilly sent out his stalker, Jesse Watters, to harass Ohio state workers. Speaking about the situation, on The Factor, an outraged Megyn Kelly wanted to know why the ACLU wasn't advocating for Joe's right to privacy. As usual, in attempting to push a right wing meme (in this case the evil ACLU) The Factor didn't tell the whole story which, in this case, was that the ACLU was very concerned about the release of confidential information.
But, funny, Kelly doesn't seem to have the same concerns about the privacy of the Tsarnaev families. Granted, Joe the Plumber didn't engage in criminal activity but even if he had or was suspected of it, that didn't abrogate his right to privacy which is not conditional to one's standing with law enforcement. Kelly obviously isn't applying the same standards of confidentiality to the Tsarnaev family that she did to Joe the Plumber.
And BTW, the only information that we have about public assistance received by the elder Tsarnaev's is that it was received "for a limited time" after their parents came here (legally) in 2002. Dzhokar Tsarnaev would have been about nine. Somehow I don't think that he was learning bomb making skills at that time - but ya never know - he might have been one of those nasty "terror babies" that Fox News warned us about!
And too bad for Megyn that we don't have some kind of "Minority Report" technology to see if welfare applicants will turn out bad. Until then, we have a legal system that Kelly, an attorney, doesn't seem to appreciate!
Megyn Kelly Rails Against Suspect's Receiving Welfare: 'Don't We Deserve To Know If We Paid For That Bomb?'
Yesterday afternoon, the hosts of The Five expressed their outrage over the fact that at least one of the Boston bombing suspects received Massachusetts state welfare payments. Today on Fox News, Megyn Kelly took on that news along with reports that Governor Deval Patrick (D-MA) is "refusing to release any records on taxpayer-funded benefits the accused bombers may have been receiving."
I wonder if Bobblehead Megyn is aware that “we” DID pay for all those bombs and drones used to kill thousands of innocent Iraqis and Afghanis and Pakistanis and Yemenis during the course of the “war on terror?”
I’m guessing she is but just doesn’t care because “those” people aren’t as important as good ol’ Merkins.
