When Bill O'Reilly, a high ranking "mullah" of the American Taliban radical, "pro-life, Christian right, declares somebody or something anathema, people listen. And sometimes they react. When he urged his fans to contact a cartoonist who published unflattering images of Bill, his followers sent e-mail death threats. When he smeared Boulder Colorado High School about a lecture that he felt was contrary to his "traditionalist" beliefs, school personnel got death threats. After Bill distorted a paper, written by a University of Washington professor, she got death threats. O'Reilly's constant attacks against Dr. George Tiller helped to create a climate of hate in which an abortion provider was murdered. And that's why one of Bill's comments, during last night's "Talking Points Memo" was very troubling.
Bill's "Talking Points" segment was a screed against the supposed scourge of American sex selection abortion which radical anti-choice activist and "sting" videographer, Lila Rose supposedly proved in her recent video. Despite the fact that sex selection abortions are not prevalent in the US, the GOP led House of Representatives will be voting on the Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act (PRENDA) that would ban abortions based on the sex of the fetus. One wonder how this is connected to the mission of the "small government" House freshman who were going to make the deficit and government accountability their #1 priority but I digress. As stated by Miriam Yeung, of the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum, it is "nothing more than another hypocritical attempt to ban abortions in this country – this time using Asian women as the excuse." Marcia D. Greenberger, Co-President of the National Women’s Law Center, says that the bill “fosters discrimination by requiring doctors to racially profile their patients, subjecting women from certain racial and ethnic backgrounds to additional scrutiny about their decision to terminate a pregnancy."
The bill is just another attempt for "pro-life" politicians to prove their "pro-life" creds. As it would be almost impossible to enforce, it's meaningless. But not surprisingly, O'Reilly supports it and wants House members to do the same - or else:
"On Thursday, the House of Representatives will vote on outlawing gender-based abortions. We'll have special coverage on that. We'll name the names of Congress people who vote against the bill perhaps advising them. They are in synch withChina's abhorrent abortion policy."
So doing his best McCarthy redux, Bill will be naming names of those who, according to Bill, support the Chinese abortion policy. Hopefully, there won't be an collateral damage but the devoutly Catholic, pro-life Bill is "fighting for the rights of the unborn" so why should he care!
And it's ironic, don't ya think, that the societies which condone sex selection are those deep gender inequalities - in other words, the kind of patriarchal society so beloved by Bill O'Reilly!
He has absolutely no room to talk. Ever.
