Bill O'Reilly is a wealthy, conservative, Catholic, "pro-life" guy whose absolute contempt for women is shown by his relentless crusade against Planned Parenthood - an organization that provides vital health care to low income American women. Now that O'Reilly was successful in creating a climate of hatred in which an abortion doctor was assassinated, O'Reilly is turning his wrath against Planned Parenthood and never wastes an opportunity to denigrate it. O'Reilly, whose estranged wife, most likely, never had to run the gauntlet of anti-choice zealots in order to access her gynecological care, shows his "pro-life" misogyny when he says stuff like "nobody's life is affected by Planned Parenthood." But then this is the dude who also said that government shouldn't have to pay for birth control because "many women are blasted out of their minds when they have sex." Bill continued his war on Planned Parenthood last week in his "Talking Points" which were, essentially, the talking points of those who are waging a war against women.
Bill's screed reflected the anti-choice meme, articulated by Fox's "news" person Megyn Kelly, that Komen "caved" to pressure from those who support Planned Parenthood. Pope Bill sees it as a dark victory for those "secular" forces that Bill is always warning us about. That Fox viewers are misinformed is evident in his first O'Reilly "fact" that is part of Bill's ongoing "script" about Planned Parenthood:
"...as you know, Planned Parenthood is primarily in business to provide abortions, more than 300,000 each year."
Wrong. Abortion services constitute 3% of Planned Parenthood's medical services.
He also claimed that the "polls say that's now about 50 percent of the population don't like breast cancer money going into Planned Parenthood until this week."
As with much of his "data," Bill didn't provide any sourcing for this "fact." The only polling data I found (PPP) indicated that 53% opposed Komen's decision and 39% supported it. It also found that "by a 38-52 percent margin, those in the nationwide poll opposed taking away federal money for other health services at Planned Parenthood clinics because the organization performs abortion."
Bill continued to whine about hateful things said about Komen which caused it to "surrender." And then described Planned Parenthood as a "pro-abortion lobby under the banner of so- called Reproductive Rights" that "does not give women who visit it's clinics the other side of the abortion story because again PP is in business for abortion." (And "what other side" is he talking about? What other side is there for many poor women for whom another pregnancy would be devastating? It's not Planned Parenthood's job to talk a woman, who has made an informed decision about her body, out of an abortion as they do in Christian "crisis pregnancy centers.")
O'Reilly righteously brayed about how when he stands before God he doesn't want to "explain how I supported the destruction of a fetus." He pontificated that he won't be supporting Komen because of their connection to Planned Parenthood.
If there is a God, I don't think she'll give him a free pass because of his pro-life TV advocacy. He's got lots more junk in his trunk for which he will be held accountable. Ya think!
And for those of you who stand with Planned Parenthood against misogynist "pro-lifers" like Billl O'Reilly, here's the thing. Every time Bill derides Planned Parenthood, contribute some scarole to Planned Parenthood. Do it for Bill!
