Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu spoke on Your World Friday (12/30/11) about a new hotline for suspected undocumented immigrants. Babeu’s county, Pinal county, is not on the border. But Babeu likes to play a border sheriff on television. He’s also a Fox News fave considering running for Congress on a severe anti-immigrant platform. “Why don’t they have a hot line for us?” Babeu asked, as if he were having trouble contacting federal authorities. “We’re on the front lines and they’re doing everything for people who are breaking the law and who are not even citizens of our country and then shout us down like we’re un-American… We’re doing the jobs the federal government fails to do, is to protect our country.” In fact, the Obama administration has doubled the number of agents on the border since 2004.
Babeu also said, "The federal government wasn't securing and enforcing the border, proven by - last year they had 241,000 illegals just in this part of Arizona that were apprehended, and they said that's only 1 of every 3 that come through. So how is this the borders more secure than ever? And instead of helping people who are breaking and disrespecting our law, why don't you help the good guys and secure this border here once and for all? They don't want any part of that, that’s too much common sense."
Guest host Elizabeth MacDonald used the term "illegal" for the detainees, of course, and she didn’t challenge anything Babeu said. But PolitiFact evaluated and rated as “True” President Obama’s claim that he has increased the number of border agents while he’s been in office and that the number has doubled since 2004.
The Sheriff and E-Mac should have known and mentioned this.
Cops who have the bad reps hate him more because he’s even less subtle than Arpaio with it, and Arpaio damn near got every precinct and sheriff’s department investigated for how the COs following his guidelines were running their own divisions. They figure that those two will play a part in their own downfall.
Of course, this wont’s stop them from voting good ol’boy again and again because of the® next to his name… much as I hate to bash the homeland, Arizona people actually are kinda stupid like that.
