Van Susteren Rescues Palin From Saying She'd Like To Lynch Sandusky

Reported by Ellen - November 16, 2011 -

Is there a single Republican presidential candidate out there who is interested in the advice of Sarah Palin? I doubt it. I have yet to hear any of them even mention her name. But don’t worry, Sarah. You’ll always have Greta Van Susteren. She trotted out Palin for more than 16 minutes to offer her special brand of insight into each candidacy. Later, Van Susteren "corrected" Palin when she indicated she'd like to lynch former coach Jerry Sandusky.

When the subject was Herman Cain, Palin said Cain "needs to really concentrate on the substance that is necessary when it comes to the solutions that he proposes to America’s challenge. People are waiting for that substance – not just from Herman but from all of the candidates when it comes from their proposals.”

This from the woman Cain was compared to when he spectacularly flubbed a simple question about America’s foreign policy.

Not that BFF Van Susteren would ever challenge such a ridiculously arrogant statement. No, Van Susteren hustled to save Palin's bacon near the end of the interview when she responded to a question about the Penn State scandal.

"Hang him from the highest tree. I’ll bring the rope,” Palin said about Sandusky.

Was Palin saying she'd lynch Sandusky? Van Susteren to the rescue! She said, “Lest we have, we start too much of a fire, a fire mess in the media, I assume when you say about hanging him by the tree that you were being uh, that you also believe in the process, the criminal justice process… You don’t want to just hang him by the tree. I assume you want a criminal process.”

“Hang him from the highest tree and I’ll bring the rope if he is guilty of what has been alleged," Palin said. “…He needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law if he is truly guilty.”

“Good,” Van Susteren said approvingly. “I just want to clarify because I know that everyone’s gonna jump all over… if you didn’t say that we’re gonna go through the legal system. I understood that but I know that’s the way it’s gonna be interpreted.”

And we couldn’t have that – not on Fox News!
