Hannity Discusses Occupiers’ Anti-Semitism With His Favorite Bigot

Reported by Ellen - November 16, 2011 -

Despite his history of outlandishly bigoted statements on Fox News, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson was welcomed back to the Hannity show again Monday night (11/14/11), this time to smear discuss the Occupy movement. Hannity seems as fond of Peterson as ever and announced that he’s (still) “on the board” of Peterson’s charity. In fact, Hannity is on the Advisory Board, as opposed to the board of directors. While other people would probably want to distance themselves from a guy like Peterson, it’s telling that Hannity overstated his connection.

As I noted in my recent post called Hannity: The Go-To Show For Race-Baiting Against African Americans, Peterson has made some shockingly bigoted statements on Hannity's shows, including:

"Most blacks, not all but most in Tennessee, especially in the Memphis, Tennessee area, are still living in the 50’s and 60’s. They are so racist that they don’t even realize that white Americans have moved on. (8/6/08)

“I think we all agree that Barack Obama was elected by, mostly by black racists and white guilty people. Most black Americans, 96 percent of them, are racists who (unintelligible) white Americans.” (2/3/09)

Right now, on the website of Peterson’s charity, the top post is an update about a special report released by the organization called, BLACK THUGS GONE WILD, WHITE AMERICANS GONE SILENT!

By the way, Peterson has appeared on other Fox News shows, including Glenn Beck and Your World with Neil Cavuto – where he has also attacked African Americans. In a 2005 Nation article, Max Blumenthal wrote an excellent exposé of Peterson and his role as “front man for a murky, well-funded network of white nationalist activists and right-wing Beltway operatives.”

Hannity made a big show of sensitivity to anti-Semitism – and never mind his own history of buddying up to anti-Semites. But surprise! Surprise! Hannity used his “sensitivity” as a vehicle to attack the left for calling out Tea Party racism!

But the anti-Semitism has really bothered me. And it’s been pretty rampant and widespread and well chronicled. Now, there were charges of racism with the Tea Party that they couldn’t prove. But we do have the proof about anti-Semitism. Why is there so much anti-Semitism…?”

The other guest, Fox News’ Margaret Hoover pushed back on Hannity’s attempt to characterize the Occupy movement as anti-Semitic. “I just chafe against this notion that an entire group of people are anti-Semitic,” she said – as Hannity insisted that’s not what he meant. The conversation moved on to criticizing the Occupiers for not targeting Washington more.

I suspect Hoover was not aware of the kinds of statements about entire groups of people Peterson has been known to make. Undoubtedly, she would have found out right then and there as Hannity had quite pointedly given Peterson an opening with that last question.

But time was up and the segment ended after Hoover spoke.
