Fox News "Asks:" Does Harry Reid Have It All Wrong?

Last Saturday's Bulls and Bears featured a discussion about Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) saying we need more spending to create federal jobs instead of relying on the private sector. The headline on foxnews.com reeked of bias. "Does Harry Reid have it all wrong?"

Midway through, regular Jonas Max Ferris told regular Tobin Smith, "There's going to be more government firing - state, local, federal - under this administration than probably about a hundred years."

Smith interrupted "As there should be. It's about time. We can't afford them."

Susan Ochs, former Treasury Department advisor, said, "When you have a world where businesses in every survey you read are saying we have a skills gap, we don't have the high enough education of people, that you're going to try to cut teachers. We lost 26,000 state and local education jobs just last month. So the idea that we're going to shortchange our kids and somehow maintain our economic dominance in the future is just ridiculous."

Later, Smith said, "Private jobs actually create wealth. Public companies suck money out of the economy, and they're very low efficient… What we're debating here is why should we do another $40 billion to hire a bunch of people that we already can't afford that are all union workers anyway."

Ochs said, "Tobin do you actually think that we don't need these teachers and these firefighters and these first responders? I mean, it shocks me when we just had the 10th anniversary of 9/11 that you would think we should have fewer police."

Comment: I bet Smith doesn't know any federal workers, or need teachers, firefighters, or cops. Also, Republicans hate unions, so they don't want anymore union jobs.
